SuperSeal receives a Scanstar

Wednesday 01. October 2008 - The Nordic packaging competition, Scanstar, has awarded a prize to Superfos’ user-friendly packaging solution SuperSeal

Superfos’ new and improved SuperSeal solution has been awarded a prize in Scandinavia’s most distinguished packaging competition, Scanstar. The prize is awarded annually after an election of an expert jury, and SuperSeal was rewarded for its end-user appeal, product safety and environmental advantages.

In its assessment of the SuperSeal solution, the jury noted that it opens and closes both easily and tightly each time, which increases the user-friendliness and protection. They also acknowledged that seal without aluminium is better for the environment.

Superfos is very satisfied that they have yet again won an award for SuperSeal, which also received the IF Packaging Award at the Interpack fair in April 2008.

“We are very glad to receive a Scanstar, which is a symbol of the quality that we want to be known for. The new combined PP lid and hermetic PP seal means that the lid opens and closes easily and tightly every time. The result can be oxygen transmission rates very close to 0 and a shelf life equal to that of traditional barrier packs. In other words, this packaging concept provides the food safety that consumers demand and keeps the products fresh,” says Corporate Communication Manager Annette Gottsche from leading packaging manufacturer Superfos. She continues:

“The eliminated need for aluminium seal during packaging also provides great environmental advantages. It is a fact that single material equals easy recycling, and since the entire pack is made of polypropylene, it is very environmentally friendly. Furthermore, our calculations show a reduction of four percent in CO2 emissions when the aluminium seal is replaced by the improved SuperSeal solution. So this is certainly a sustainable choice.”

Cheap and simple production
One of the key advantages of the new SuperSeal solution is a more efficient production. With no aluminium foil, production is simplified and production costs are cut. The ultra-thin lid seal area allows for a short sealing time and low sealing temperatures resulting in more efficient production and a tight, blister-free seal area.

27 packaging solutions signed up for the competition, but only nine were awarded a Scanstar, which allows them to use the symbol in their marketing and also provides a chance to compete in the Worldstar competition arranged by WPO (World Packaging Organisation).

The award ceremony will take place at the FoodPharmaTect fair in Messecenter Herning, Denmark, on 11 November 2008 where the award-winning packaging solutions will also be exhibited.
