Clever packaging keeps track on cables

Monday 23. June 2008 - Cable expert Nexans has introduced a new packaging solution that equals better protection and easier installation of the cables. The new solution is developed in close coorporation with Superfos

As a global expert in cables and cabling systems, it is of great importance to Nexans to keep improving both products and packaging. Therefore, the Norwegian company has worked closely together with leading packaging supplier Superfos in order to bring new innovative solutions to market. The result is a SuperFlex solution especially designed for cables.

“It is very important for us to maintain the high quality of our products all the way from our production facilities to the building where the cable is installed. With this plastic container, we make sure that the cables are kept safe and not influenced by e.g. dampness,” says Production Manager Jon Snesrud from Nexans and continues:

“The new packaging has several everyday advantages: It is much easier to carry the cables, the container can hang on f.i. a ladder or the wall, it is quicker to open and close it, and it is easier to stabilise half empty containers. Furthermore, as the cable is marked in metres, it can be measured just by pulling it from the container. Little things that truly ease the daily work.”

Easy recovery and recycling
The new packaging solution holds green advantages too. As both cable drum and container are made of polypropylene (PP) plastics, there is no need to sort the packaging elements after use. Moreover, PP can be reused, recycled or incinerated with energy recovery, or disposed of in an environmentally responsible way.

“The installation often takes place in building projects where other professions such as painters work too and they also use products in plastic packaging. Therefore, it is much easier to treat and dispose the waste and to recover all plastic packaging for reuse or recycling,” Jon Snesrud explains.
In May, Nexans introduced the new cable container to the Norwegian market and the company is looking forward to receiving the customers’ opinion on it.
