IFRA Expo 2008 shows the “Big Picture”

Monday 30. June 2008 - "The Annual Event of the News Publishing Industry" returns to Amsterdam from 27 to 30 October 2008

“See you in Amsterdam” was an often-heard farewell in Düsseldorf at the beginning of this month. Under the motto “Get the Big Picture!”, this year’s IFRA Expo will take place in the capital of the Netherlands from 27 to 30 October 2008 at the RAI exhibition centre (www.ifraexpo.com – www.rai.nl).

The Big Picture that is the focus of this year’s exhibition is already firmly shaping up not only as a result of the traditionally attractive venue of Amsterdam, which will host the “Annual Event of the News Publishing Industry” for the 16th time, but also the number of exhibitors registered to date: By the time of going to press, more than 240 exhibitors and service providers had booked nearly 13,000 m² stand space. IFRA also expects approximately 10,000 newspaper experts from more than 80 countries to attend the event as visitors. An updated list of exhibitors as well as additional information about IFRA Expo 2008 is available under www.ifraexpo.com.

IFRA CEO Reiner Mittelbach says about this year’s Expo motto: “IFRA Expo is the only exhibition that presents all products and services for those working in the media. It shows the entire picture, not only parts of it. At the same time is a symbol of IFRA’s claim to be the leading platform worldwide for technology and business. As such, it is a must for newspaper specialists.”

Michael Heipel, IFRA Director of Exhibitions and Sales, is pleased to note “that already many and important exhibitors from all areas of the newspaper business and workflow have registered for Amsterdam. Through them, we can realise our this year’s motto ‘Get the Big Picture!’ and thus offer our visitors a comprehensive range of topics in the autumn. IFRA Expo continues to be the only exhibition to present all products and services for those working in the media at a single venue.”

Selected quotes from exhibitors at IFRA Expo

Steve Kirk, Head of Marketing, ABB Schweiz AG, Switzerland:
“We believe that IFRA Expo is the most important trade show in the newspaper production business. It has always been our busiest and most effective trade show. We are committed to the newspaper business and, therefore, to the IFRA Expo.”

Torben Juul, VP Marketing, CCI Europe, Denmark:
“We believe IFRA Expo is the main exhibition for and access to the European market. In addition it also gives access to newspapers from other parts of the world. Its globalness and size make it special. We believe that the market will look for new editorial solutions in the coming years, and that IFRA Expo is the main place to search for these.”

Barbara Longhi, Communication & Image, Elettra, Italy:
“The main motivation for us to exhibit at IFRA Expo is because it is focused and addressed to the Newspaper sector only. All the products, services that are linked to newspapers are here. Specialised interested and professional visitors make the exhibition special. At IFRA Expo 2008, we expect to meet potential customers, printers, high level managers of the printing groups to whom we can introduce our innovations of our products.”

Richard Elmer, Marketingkommunikation, Ferag AG, Switzerland:
“As the exhibition for newspapers, the annual IFRA Expo is for us the most important event in Europe. It is there that we meet top management from publishing houses and newspaper printing companies. Discussions are held at the highest level. From these discussions there emerge impulses that inspire us to new developments, both at technical level or for new types of advertising and business models for newspaper marketing. IFRA Expo is every year the unique opportunity for us to cultivate customer relations in a non-hectic environment and exchange views with existing and potential customers as well as the newspaper market in general. IFRA Expo 2008 will confirm the unique position of the newspaper in the media industry and propagate its unique strengths and possibilities.”

Willem Kok, President, Graphic Web Systems,
The Netherlands:
“The main motivation for us to exhibit at IFRA Expo is very simple…. To create more business! Why then especially there and what makes IFRA Expo so special? Also very simple: IFRA Expo is by far the leading trade show in the world when it comes to newspaper printing. Not only does IFRA Expo bring together more newspaper management than any other event in the world, but it is also an event where decision makers go to make up their minds for future investments. Be aware, it is not necessarily the publishers and CEO’s who are the decision makers. It is of even bigger importance to reach that wide range of management just below the big guys. This is what makes IFRA so important, because here you will find both groups, representing nationalities from all around the world.”

Klaus Schmidt, Vice President/Director Marketing, Koenig & Bauer AG, Germany:
“IFRA Expo guarantees KBA effective access to its target group, i.e. technical management in the newspaper sector, who are not as strongly represented, or less directly addressed respectively, by other organisations or events. The above-average concentration on technical production topics as well as the high level of attendance of technical decision-makers make the exhibition unique. We will participate also in 2008 in Amsterdam, as we have done for decades.”

Werner Gerza, Managing Director Europe,
MacDermid Printing Solutions, Germany:
“We have been at nearly every IFRA Expo for the last 28 years. The main reason is that most of our customers, though also potential customers, visit IFRA Expo and come to see us on our stand. The quality of the discussion partners is also high, ranging from technical managers to publishers. We arrange important meetings in advance for during IFRA Expo, followed by several traditional social events. IFRA is the only exhibition of this kind exclusively for the newspaper industry, and that is where we are at home. From our point of view, the market is developing very positively.”

Laura Doris Reuterfors, Motterstitch, USA:
“At IFRA Expo, we reach new customers and educate possible customers about what they can do to bind their products. We can reach all European customers at once.”

Volker Leonhardt, Head of Sales/Marketing,
Müller Martini Mailroom Systems, Switzerland:
“IFRA Expo offers us, as manufacturers, the opportunity to enter into intensive contact with the decision-makers in the newspaper industry in the space of just a few days. We have the possibility to discuss in detail our latest product developments with customers and interested persons. The regularity of this event and the contact possibilities it offers mean that developments and measures can be monitored continuously. We take it for granted that IFRA Expo will continue to act as the platform for the print production industry, but also highlight synergies of the different information platforms.”

Karl Fritchen, President, QuadTech, USA:
“IFRA Expo is the best international event to meet the key industry players. To not only demonstrate market-leading products, but also to obtain market feedback and network with people who really understand current newspaper issues. IFRA Expo 2008 will provide a platform for the launch of new technologies to come to market in an environment uniquely tailored to reach key industry players.”

Ilse van Holten, Marketing Manager, Q.I. Press Controls, The Netherlands:
“Of the about twenty yearly exhibitions we participate at worldwide, IFRA Expo brings us by far the best result in qualitative and quantitative leads. IFRA Expo is so very well known that decision makers in the printing industry know they have to be there to meet all contacts and get the latest information about market trends and innovative solutions. We expect that the smaller exhibitions will disappear and the larger ones like IFRA Expo will get bigger and more important for the market.”

Michael B. Kron, President & CEO, Tolerans AB, Sweden:
“Our main motivation to exhibit at IFRA Expo is to maintain existing customer relationships and to show our technology to new potential buyers. IFRA Expo is a very newspaper dedicated show which is perfect for Tolerans and it has a good quality of visitors. IFRA’s serious commitment to the industry gives the show a stamp of seriousness and quality. We hope to continue grow our business and participate at IFRA Expo in Europe and potentially elsewhere.”
