Learning about design for the publishing industry – in print, video and web

Tuesday 29. April 2008 - IFRA International Conference on 27 and 28 May 2008 in Paris: Design for newspapers and magazines

The influences of new media and the new activities of newspaper companies are rapidly changing the writing for the printed newspaper as well as how that information is being presented. The visual world of readers is infinitely richer than ever before, which in turn raises the expectations they have for the publications they read.

To address these issues, IFRA and the Society for News Design (SND: www.snd.org) are organising an international conference dedicated to the design of newspapers and magazines, on 27 and 28 May in Paris (www.ifra.com/events).

This event will bring together those who are confronted by the demands of newspaper design on a daily basis. It will examine questions such as: How should newspaper design develop? What are the most interesting initiatives under way today? Do publishers’ media extensions (e.g. web, video) have to match their printed publications?

The conference topics include:
– Best newspapers and magazines design experiences worldwide;
– How design for the web differs from print design;
– Connecting with the online audience with videos;
– The latest Eye-tracking research;
– Good web quality practice applied to design;
– Motion design;
– New trends in print, web and video design.

Renowned specialists who will deal with these questions at the conference include:
– Stéphane Baril, Pre Sales Consultant Crea Pro Adobe (France);
– Alberto Cairo, Professor of Information Visualization, Graphics and Multimedia in the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (USA);
– Carlos Perez de Rozas, Director for Studio Cases i Associats in Barcelona (Spain);
