SPIRE PRINTING INVESTS IN PROCREASER PLUS FROM TOTAL PRINT FINISHING SERVICES

Monday 08. February 2010 - Salisbury’s Spire Printing is enjoying improved flexibility and quality in the finishing department following its recent investment in a Procreaser Plus digital creasing and perforating machine from Total Print Finishing Services (Total PFS).

The successful offset litho print house, which counts The National Trust of Scotland among its clients, as well as numerous local businesses, restaurants and pubs, installed the machine initially to fulfil a job for National Trust Scotland. The job required double scoring in two directions, which its previous manual creasing machine could not complete fast enough or to a high enough quality. Following this successful trial period, Spire Printing opted to keep the machine and Managing Director, Mark Harvey, has been delighted with the results.

Says Mark: “The Procreaser Plus is a very capable and productive machine that will crease almost any stock, even laminated, multiple times in a single pass. It’s compact, fast, the quality is excellent and the integrated perforating option provides even greater flexibility. Our customers have come to expect a fast-turnaround and high level of quality from Spire Printing and the Procreaser Plus is helping us to maintain our reputation in that respect.

“We’ve established an excellent relationship with Total PFS in the four years we have been doing business. They have proved many times over to be a highly responsive and knowledgeable supplier and when we needed the machine to finish the National Trust job it was with us by 10am the next day. They are also a company you can rely on for technical support, whether that’s over the telephone or with an engineer on site and that gives us great peace of mind.”

Spire’s Procreaser Plus will be used for the production of post cards, folded business cards and menus. The machine can finish up to 2000 Sheets per hour, enables five programmes to be stored in its memory and offers a maximum of 15 creases or perforations per programme. It’s manufactured in the Czech Republic by finishing machine manufacturer, Cyklos; comes complete with total and batch counters and offers a working width of up to 450mm. It’s able to handle paper weights of up 400 gsm for creasing and 250 gsm for perforating.

Says Clive Richardson, Joint-Managing Director, Total Print Finishing Services: “When you consider its high-functionality, the Procreaser Plus is an extremely cost-effective option for printers and in-plants who are looking for, but currently can’t afford, many of the on-demand digital creasing products in the market. At only £4,000, it continues to break down the barriers to entry into the digital creasing sector, enabling more printers and in-plants to offer a high-quality, on-demand creasing and perforating service for minimal capital outlay.”

Spire Printing was established four years ago, and has enjoyed remarkable growth on the back of its commitment to high customer service and quick turnaround times. It employs five full time staff, has achieved an annual turnover of £240,000 and outgrown its recently purchased premises within a matter of months. It produces a complete range of printed products including business cards, brochures, booklets, flyers, posters and menus. Its printing equipment portfolio includes two Ryobi four-colour presses, a Ryobi two-colour, a Sharp black and white copier and a Canon wide-format machine. In the finishing department, the Procreaser Plus joins a Watkiss booklet-maker, an MBO folder and numbering and scoring machines.
