The New York Times Expands Distribution in Philadelphia Area
Monday 03. March 2008 - New Print Site Agreement with The Philadelphia Inquirer
The New York Times announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Philadelphia Newspapers LLC, publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, to print The Times at their Schuylkill printing plant in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania and to distribute home delivery for The Times throughout the Philadelphia area.
The agreement, to take effect in early March, will enable The Times to extend weekday and Sunday home delivery to readers in the Philadelphia area as well as better serve existing markets in the surrounding area.
“This new agreement with The Philadelphia Inquirer will allow us to extend and enhance our distribution with more availability in the Philadelphia area,” said Scott Heekin-Canedy, president and general manager of The New York Times. “This is the third print site expansion we’ve completed in the last six months following Salt Lake City in September and Dallas in January.”
“Philadelphia Newspapers currently prints 12 other publications at the Schuylkill printing plant and we are pleased to add The New York Times, which will be printed on our state-of-the-art presses,” said Mark Frisby, executive vice president of Philadelphia Media Holdings.
The New York Times is currently printed at 24 locations in North America: Chicago, Ill.; Gardenia, Calif.; Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Austin, Tex.; Seattle, Wash.; Canton, Ohio; Concord, Calif.; Atlanta, Ga.; Springfield, Va.; Billerica, Mass.; Lakeland, Fla.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Denver, Colo.; Princeton, Minn.; Gastonia, N.C.; Dayton, Ohio; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Columbia, Mo.; Toronto, Ontario; Houston, Tex; Dallas, Tex.; and Salt Lake City, Utah. The New York edition is printed in Queens, N.Y. and Edison, N.J. The Philadelphia print site will bring the number to 25.
