The New York Times Delivers News and Opinion Through Text Messages

Monday 28. January 2008 - Readers Can Text in for the Latest News, their Favorite Columnists or the Most E-mailed List

The New York Times (www.NYTimes.com) announced today the launch of a text messaging service that will deliver the latest news, features and columns from the newspaper as well as features from The Times Magazine to cell phones and mobile devices.
“With our mobile site experiencing triple-digit growth, this is the next step in our efforts to make full use of this medium,” said Rob Larson, vice president, product development and management, NYTimes.com. “We want our readers to have easy access to our news and opinion, wherever they may be, and this new service makes it even easier to read us on the go. We intend to use every available platform to disseminate The Times’s quality news and information.”
By sending a text message with the appropriate keyword to 698698 (NYTNYT), users can receive the latest three articles from that given section or the most recent column from their favorite opinion, business, environmental, entertainment, health, metro, national, political, sports or technology columnist. Articles can be displayed on any type of cell phone or PDA. Starting today, the text message keywords will appear in the appropriate sections of the newspaper; the complete list is also included below. The services are free to use, although standard carrier charges may apply.
