PUR SPN Side Glue Nozzle Opens Up Creative Make-Up Options in Perfect Binding

The SPN side glue nozzle processes a diverse range of materials with great reliability and produces first-class, high-quality soft cover books.

Monday 08. June 2009 - The SPN side glue nozzle for PUR side gluing produces high-quality, durable products as well as opening up new make-up options for users. With this product, Muller Martini is complementing its continuous offering for PUR processing in perfect binding.

The PUR side gluing process supports creative product make-up while also guaranteeing top-quality perfect-bound products. With the SPN nozzle from Muller Martini, the widest range of materials can be reliably processed always with excellent binding strength. The specific properties of PUR adhesive mean that side-glued products are also much more resistant to high temperatures and aging processes.

Closed SPN System
The closed SPN system comprises an MOD SPN block premelter, a heated feed hose, a glue trolley and the side gluing unit. With “Melting On Demand” (MOD) technology, only as much glue is applied in a two-stage melting area as is required for the process. This principle helps to avoid unnecessary temperature stresses and viscosity changes in the adhesive. The four application nozzles on the side gluing unit then transfer the PUR adhesive to the book block in a contact-free process.

Quality Processing
The required PUR adhesive is adjusted volumetrically based on the specified glue quantity and the binder speed. Thus the application nozzles apply a constant and precise glue film to the book block. The biggest advantage of this method is the fact that the volume-optimised glue application results in substantially lower glue costs.

Quick and Simple Setup
The glue application height can be adjusted easily and reliably, as can the distance between the glue lines, simply by angling the application nozzles. The contact-free application process means that a broad range of products, including high-quality brochures or thread-sewn materials, can be processed without using interchangeable parts.
The side gluing unit is extremely easy to operate and is controlled via the perfect binder Commander system. The book thickness is entered directly via the Commander system and set automatically. In addition, a lamp on the block premelter indicates when a PUR container must be refilled.

With the SPN side glue nozzle, Muller Martini is offering a continuous system for PUR processing in perfect binding. With this complete one-stop solution, bookbinders are able to benefit from comprehensive advice and local service support.
