Fujifilm announces UK launch of XMF v2.0 at Total Print! Expo

Friday 05. September 2008 - Unique, cross-media workflow solution gains host of new enhancements to improve short-run print applications

Fujifilm today announces that it will be using Total Print! Expo 2008 as the UK launch platform for version 2.0 of its XMF cross-media workflow solution. With a wide range of new features, XMF v2.0 is the ideal solution for driving multiple output devices where maximum productivity and efficiency are key, making it suitable for both long and short-run print applications.

XMF is unique in being built from the ground up around JDF and the Adobe PDF Print Engine. With Fujifilm’s image processing, imposition and intelligent automation technologies built-in, XMF v2.0 also improves the control of quality across multiple print processes, increasing efficiency and productivity, while giving printers a simple way of ensuring colour consistency.

XMF v2.0 boasts an array of new features for advanced performance. A new version of XMF C-Fit, Fujifilm’s fully-featured image enhancement module available within XMF, has the ability to automatically optimise a PDF ready for digital print, providing an efficient way of maximising output quality.

XMF v2.0 also incorporates Version 2 of the Adobe PDF Print Engine announced at Drupa. With this development, Fujifilm continues to lead the way with the adoption of Adobe’s PDF Print Engine technology, having also been the first company to release a workflow implementation based on version 1 of the PDF Print Engine in 2006. This is particularly important for short-run print applications as Version 2 of the Adobe PDF Print Engine has been designed to address the ever more demanding needs of digital printing.

A new Fujifilm colour engine that optimises toner usage when used with a Xerox DocuColor press is also incorporated in XMF v2.0. This produces output quality much closer to offset printing and dramatically reduces the ‘shine’ sometimes seen on toner-based digital output.

XMF v2.0 also includes a new web-based communications module called XMF Remote, a client web portal fully integrated within the XMF production workflow. This online extension to XMF allows comprehensive job submission, approval and online proofing functionality.

Graham Leeson, marketing manager at Fujifilm Graphic Systems, says: “Printers who are looking to maximise the opportunities that digital technologies bring should visit the Fujifilm stand at Total Print Expo. The core technologies behind XMF and the new features introduced in v2.0 mean that it’s the ideal solution for short-run as well as long-run printing. By coming to the Fujifilm stand, printers will be able to see how the combination of Fujifilm colour management and image processing technologies driving a range of high quality output devices represents the very best in short-run print.”
