Fujifilm launches environmental calculator

Thursday 31. July 2008 - Fujifilm today announces that it has developed a plate processing resources calculator to help all printers assess the impact their platemaking has on the environment.

The online calculator enables printers to compare differing plate processing solutions – processed, ZAC -processed, chemistry-free and processless – to see how they compare in terms of environmental performance. The site features a clear guide to each process, identifying the major differences between each technology.

A printer using the calculator simply enters the number and size of the plates used per month; the amount of replenisher and developer consumed; the size of the processor, and finally how many hours it is in use and on standby. The calculator then generates clear bar graphs showing how much water, chemistry and energy is consumed and how much waste is produced for each different plate processing solution. To find out how environmental performance can be improved, a printer can experiment with different configurations.

Graham Leeson, marketing manager for Fujifilm, says: “The plate processing resources calculator quickly and simply allows a printer to understand the relative environmental pros and cons of the different platemaking technologies. Importantly, the calculator clarifies the grey area surrounding chemistry-free and processless platemaking from an environmental perspective by clearly identifying the resources used and waste produced. The calculator is further evidence of Fujifilm’s commitment to producing products, technologies and services geared to helping printers reduce their impact on the environment.”
