Kodak Focuses on Delivering Offset Class Quality, Providing Scaleable Solutions with Inkjet Printing Systems

Friday 18. January 2008 - Kodak’s three prong strategy for its high speed inkjet portfolio is based on meeting customer needs. The foundations of Kodak’s approach are to provide technology options by extending its VERSAMARK Printing System Portfolio, developing scaleable solutions for customers to move to the next level system, and taking inkjet into new applications using KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology.

KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology is a continuous inkjet system that enables offset class quality, productivity, reliability and cost with the full benefits of digital printing for high volume commercial applications. It allows continuous inkjet printing to expand beyond the core base of transactional printers and secondary imprinting and into high volume commercial applications.
Stream Inkjet Technology serves as an entrée for continuous inkjet printing into commercial printers that want the benefits of variable data, short run, personalization or versioning on their jobs traditionally produced using offset presses. To demonstrate Kodak’s commitment to Stream Inkjet Technology and its ability to meet the needs of high volume commercial printing, Kodak will demonstrate the Stream Inkjet Technology Concept Press at drupa 2008.
“Our inkjet strategy is based on our belief that inkjet will have a dramatic effect on the printing industry over the next 10 years,” said Antonio M. Perez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Eastman Kodak Company. “Kodak has made the commitment to invest in inkjet, based on our unmatched expertise in digital imaging and materials science. This combination today allows Kodak to provide our customers with best-in-class technologies for the consumer market. In May, at drupa, we will again apply our unique knowledge of printing to present a breakthrough advance in high volume production inkjet through our revolutionary Stream Inkjet Technology.”
Complementing Stream Inkjet Technology based solutions, other additions to Kodak’s portfolio allow customers to select the right KODAK Inkjet System for their current needs and provide an easy path to the next level system as their requirements change. These scaleable solutions protect customers’ investments, allowing them to increase throughput or color capabilities via other KODAK Inkjet Systems as their businesses grow.
Kodak announced that it will expand the high volume V Series Product line with the KODAK VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System. The VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System allows printers with volumes of 1 million to 5 million A4 impressions a month to economically print TransPromo and direct mail applications.
Kodak’s expanded lineup of inkjet printing systems extends its solutions in the core markets of addressing, direct mail imprinting, and transactional printers. In addition to serving new segments through its own systems, Kodak collaborates with other manufacturers to deliver solutions—based on Kodak’s VERSAMARK Printing Systems portfolio—for specific publishing and other industrial applications.
“Stream Inkjet Technology and scaleable expansions to our portfolio set us on a course to bring inkjet printing to new markets and customers within the segments we currently serve,” said Isidre Rosello, General Manager, Inkjet Printing Solutions, Kodak. “As we move forward with our long term strategy, we will continue to serve our core transactional market by continually enhancing and expanding our market leading high speed, color, roll fed and imprinting inkjet solutions.”
