MINISTER SUPPORTS ZERO WASTE DRIVE

Tuesday 08. March 2011 - The Zero Waste Campaign being run by the Cwm Harry Land Trust in Presteigne, Wales, aims to divert a much higher amount of household waste from landfill.

Using a milk round style collection, this intense recycling solution, known as “Slow Recycling”, not only diverts more waste to reuse and recycling but also generates a much higher quality material. The newspaper and magazines collected by the Cwm Harry Land Trust team is excellent in quality and is being delivered to Aylesford Newsprint who have supported this innovative scheme from the outset.
Slow recycling is an intense version of a regular kerbside sort, involving a ‘milkman’ style recycler working with just 250 properties a day. The process is more thorough than traditional methods and produces excellent recyclate quality with above average recycling rates. More time is available to work with less confident households to maximize their recycling using this method.
Jane Davidson, the Welsh Assembly’s Environment Minister, is pictured inspecting the first load of paper collected through the scheme on her visit to the Cwm Harry Trust’s project in Presteigne.
