Zoran and Software Imaging Launch New Universal Driverless Printing Solution for Smartphones and Tablets

Friday 11. February 2011 - DirectOfficeTM Mobile Print Enables Printing of Common Document Formats to Existing Printers

Zoran Corporation (NASDAQ: ZRAN) and Software Imaging Limited announced that they have signed a joint development agreement to launch DirectOffice Mobile Print. This new best-in-class printing solution allows consumers to print the most common document formats from mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets via Wi-Fi, the Internet, 3G or other available connections.
Software Imaging and Zoran will be demonstrating the new DirectOffice Mobile Print solution to manufacturers at the Mobile World Congress, February 14-17 in Barcelona, Spain.
One billion unit market by 2015
According to In-Stat, the smartphone/tablet market is expected to grow to one billion units by 2015.
“The mobile device market has evolved and grown at a very rapid pace. However, to date consumers’ expectations for printing more complex content on-the-go have not been met,” said Peter Lismer, chief executive officer, Software Imaging. “We’re pleased about our partnership with Zoran because we have a great fit technically that enables us to jointly deliver a powerful universal mobile printing solution.”
Driverless Mobile Network Printing
The DirectOffice Mobile Print solution combines Zoran’s document conversion technology with Software Imaging’s print application software to provide a solution to mobile device manufacturers that offers powerful print capabilities, seamless integration with native applications on smartphones and tablets, and easy discovery of printers on the network.
Unlike other mobile printing solutions, which work with a limited set of printers and document formats or require an investment in new devices, DirectOffice Mobile Print allows users to print Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF documents, web pages, emails and photos directly over Wi-Fi to their home or office printer or through multiple cloud service providers to a business center or public printer, all without installing printer-specific drivers. Additionally, advanced automatic printer discovery-and-configuration capabilities enable consumers to easily locate, save and geotag printers for future use.
“DirectOffice Mobile Print provides superior fidelity. The printed output matches the originally created document, not the simplified version displayed on a mobile device’s screen,” said Simon Dolan, senior vice president and general manager, Zoran’s Imaging Division. “Essentially, what you created is what you get.”
The DirectOffice Mobile Print solution will be available in Q2 2011.
