Zoran Corporation Launches Only Complete Solution Pairing New Multicore Processors With Software for Office Printing Market

Wednesday 17. June 2009 - Quatro Processors Enable More Affordable Printers & MFPs With Faster Print Language Processing and Advanced Networking Capabilities

Zoran Corporation (NASDAQ: ZRAN) announced its Quatro 4500 family of processors integrate multicore CPUs to accelerate print language processing as well as four DSP cores to provide high-speed image processing for network office printers and multifunction peripherals (MFPs). See companion IPS print language interpreter news release with today’s date.
Traditionally, it was necessary to increase CPU clock speed to gain higher performance in high-speed printers. With multicore technology, it is possible to gain increased performance while minimizing energy consumption and product costs. The Quatro 4500 family of processors offer print manufacturers a range of CPU solutions from 400 MHz to 600 MHz dual ARM11MP cores to provide fast processing of Zoran’s multicore-optimized IPS print language interpreters, enabling print speeds in excess of 45 color pages per minute. Zoran’s is the only solution that includes both the multicore processors and print language interpreter software.
The Quatro 4500 processors support the latest enterprise networking requirements including Gigabit Ethernet, IP version 6 and IP security, which are becoming must-have features in many enterprise and government organizations. Costs are minimized through integration of USB interfaces, laser clock generator, laser modulator, a real-time clock and other capabilities. The processors’ high-speed scan and copy processing is achieved through the combination of the hardware image processing pipeline and four programmable Quatro digital signal processors (DSPs), which allow OEMs to customize and differentiate their products.
“Manufacturers are under constant consumer pressure to develop faster and more full-featured printers, scanners and MFPs at a lower price point,” said Keith Kmetz, vice president of Hardcopy Peripherals Solutions and Services at IDC. “Zoran’s integration of multicore technology in the Quatro 4500 family of processors will help manufacturers build a new generation of faster printing and scanning devices for the office printing market.”
“By leveraging multicore technology, Zoran provides manufacturers with a leading-edge solution that offers both high performance and the full cost benefit of system-on-chip integration, previously available only in lower performance products,” said Simon Dolan, senior vice president and general manager, Zoran’s Imaging Division. “Combined with our industry-leading multicore-optimized IPS print language interpreters, we’ve delivered one of the most complete and powerful office printing solutions available.”
The new Quatro 4500 processors, together with the lower-end 4305 and 4310 processors, offer solutions that span the full range of desktop office printing devices.
