VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER TO AYLESFORD NEWSPRINT
Monday 12. April 2010 - Aylesford Newsprint was pleased to host one of the first visits of the 2010 General Election campaign. Shortly after announcing the date of the Election, the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, toured the Aylesford Newsprint site in Kent, accompanied by his wife, Sarah, and the MP for Chatham and Aylesford, Jonathan Shaw.
During the visit, which was hosted by Managing Director, Bengt Blomberg, and Finance Director, Ian Broxup, the Prime Minister saw one of the two Aylesford papermaking machines, PM14, and the Automated Warehouse. Having expressed an interest in the Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme, Mr Brown later chatted with a group of current and recent apprentices along with other members of staff.
Before leaving for his next engagement, Mr Brown said how impressed he was with the equipment and the people at Aylesford and said that everyone at the mill should feel very proud of the company.
Aylesford Newsprint Ltd manufactures newsprint from 100% recovered newspapers and magazines on a 100 acre site in Kent. The company is jointly owned by SCA Forest Products and the Mondi Group.
