Innovative solutions and sustainability

Monday 12. May 2008 - Limmatdruck/Zeiler: "Round" ZetKLIK - Finishing - Commitment to the envi-ronment - Special-purpose machine design

At Interpack 2008 in Düsseldorf, Limmatdruck/Zeiler is showcasing its extensive service portfolio for the packaging sector along with innovative packaging concepts, such as the new ZetKLIK with rounded corners. The company will also be unveiling its new finishing catalog “Inspira-tion” and using a machine demonstration to highlight the expertise of its in-house special-purpose machine design department. Limmatdruck/Zeiler has been a leading manufacturer of card packaging in sheetfed offset printing in Switzerland for many years now. It is also one of the most successful providers of complete solutions for the packaging industry in Europe. Recently, the pack-aging manufacturer was also awarded FSC certification.

ZetKLIK and finishing catalog
Limmatdruck/Zeiler has developed a new type of ZetKLIK packaging that gives the impression of having rounded edges. The new version of this eye-catching classic is practical, resealable and, in view of the sustained “to go” trend, aimed chiefly at the confectionary industry. Of course, if the edges of the carton were really round, the bot-tom would not close properly. In actual fact, “Böxli” is designed with a number of cor-ners to give it a rounded effect. Additional flaps help ensure that it is sealed securely. The company has applied to patent the packaging design throughout Europe.

The new “Inspiration” finishing catalog will also be on display. It is designed to give marketing specialists and packaging developers in a wide range of industries an over-view of the latest finishing options available on the market. It was drawn up in re-sponse to the increasing importance of packaging design and the rapid development of finishing technologies.

FSC certification
The label of the non-profit-making Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which works to ensure environmentally-sound and economically sustainable forestry management worldwide, underlines that Limmatdruck/Zeiler is committed to sustainability and envi-ronmentally-friendly trade. It certifies the processing and sales chain. The company buys FSC-certified material from suppliers and must ensure the traceability and con-sistent separation and identification of certified and non-certified products along the entire manufacturing chain. This end-to-end protection of the process chain ensures that consumers can be certain that they have a product from a sustainable forestry management source.

Special-purpose machine SLL-15
At Interpack, Limmatdruck/Zeiler will be demonstrating an example of its special-purpose machines in the form of a vertical cartonizer designed specifically for packag-ing sensitive goods. This machine can be used to align and package fragile products – such as chocolate Easter bunnies, wine glasses, cosmetics or sanitary products – safely and correctly in the carton.

In contrast to previous machines, which dropped products in from above or pushed them in horizontally, this special-purpose system uses a platform to insert the products into the packaging from below. An indexing turntable located in front of the packaging station ensures that the products are positioned correctly. For example, all the choco-late Easter bunnies can be inserted into the packaging with the same side to the front. On ejection from the machine, the packaging can be turned in any direction so that the label can be attached to different sides, depending on the design.

Limmatdruck/Zeiler AG
In addition to packaging production and development, COPACO company Lim-matdruck/Zeiler also offers complete packaging concepts for the entire process chain, right through to logistics solutions and special-purpose machine design. In the 2007 financial year, the company generated sales of Euro 83.5 million. The confectionary and food sectors accounted for around 51 percent and 34.5 percent respectively. Limmatdruck/Zeiler is the market leader in the candy and chewing gum segment on the European market, producing more than 1 billion folding cartons a year. Its custo-mers include Nestlé, Midor, Kraft Foods, Cadbury, Procter & Gamble, Ricola, Roche and Wrigley.
