Limpet Labels extends colour gamut with SCREEN L350UV SAI S 7-colour

Wednesday 08. September 2021 - As Limpet Labels sees demand for its digital print services grow - digital now represents over 80% of its business - the label specialist has expanded its machinery with a third SCREEN inkjet press: the Truepress Jet L350UV SAI S 7-colour.

British digital printer acquires third SCREEN inkjet machine to boost colour consistency while saving ink
“This machine enhances our colour gamut while at the same time helping us save ink, making our operations more cost-efficient”, says Nathan Williams, Operations Manager.
The Japanese word sai means ‘colourful’, and the new SCREEN SAI series was developed to deliver just that: help printers produce a wider range of pantone colours to meet brand owners’ challenging demands.
Williams says: “To print the right blue colour, for example, previous generations of print presses often needed large amounts of ink, applied in different layers. The newest SCREEN SAI press, however, achieves the right colour much more easily, and saves us about half the amount of ink.” As well as cost savings, this enables Limpet Labels to address its customers’ increasing interest in meeting challenging eco-friendly standards. The L350UV SAI also helps Limpet Labels reduce material waste even further by requiring minimal to zero setup in between live jobs.
The reliability of SCREEN’s presses, their uptime of over 95%, and high production speed of up to 60 metres per minute, were key arguments for Limpet Labels’ decision to invest in a third SCREEN machine. Active in the chemical and industrial label markets as well as other sectors, Limpet Labels has been working with SCREEN for seven years. “Each generation, SCREEN equipment and software provides even more stability and colour consistency,” Williams points out. “This newest, high-end SAI technology is as easy to use as an iPad, and it doesn’t require a lot of training for our operators to use the machine in the best possible way.”
Since shifting from toner to inkjet, the amount of orders Limpet Labels is producing digitally has grown by around 230%. With inkjet enabling it to target new markets both within the UK and mainland Europe, Limpet expects its “healthy and steady growth” to continue, with more investments in digital inkjet printing to come in the next few years. Limpet Labels’ growth reflects the ongoing shift towards digital in the wider UK print market.
