Ricoh produce PacPrint Daily on production colour device

Monday 01. June 2009 - As proud exclusive sponsors of the PacPrint Daily, Ricoh also faced the difficult task of producing the first issue. With limited time and tight deadlines, they had to produce today’s 5,000 copies of The Daily - starting last night, with the final pages of up-to-the-minute news landing this morning. This was all possible, thanks to their flagship production colour engine, the Pro C900.

The Pro C900 is Ricoh’s first production colour device. Officially launched in February, this device offers the fastest speed in its class of up to 90ppm in full colour, with the ability to print on up to 300gsm without affecting the speed, with an average monthly print volume of 170,000 and duty cycle of 400,000. Fitted out with a wealth of industry leading inline finishing options, it boasts the first ever fully automated ring-binder. These options save users time and money by reducing the need for operators to handle the job at each point, meaning less errors and a more efficient production workflow overall.
“The Pro C900 is the ideal machine to print this publication. It’s robust, fast and offers great colour quality. We are proud to have this opportunity to print the PacPrint Daily and showcase the Pro C900 to an audience of so many potential customers,” said Kathy Wilson, General Manager of Production and Business Solutions, Ricoh Australia.
Print rooms are always working to tight deadlines – Tony Bertolotti, Manager of Melbourne University’s Digital Print Centre, recently installed Ricoh’s Pro C900 to meet his clients’ demands.
Bertolotti selected Ricoh’s flagship entry in the production market after a careful selection process. “We wanted the best in colour. But also a key factor was speed, efficiency and finishing,” he said, adding “I wanted the newest technology. With the Pro C900 I’m getting the newest technology for colour available to the market. I’m also getting the latest hardware and software.”
Working in an incredibly tight market meant that the Digital Printing Centre must offer the best in pricing and service. “We fight for every impression in this place. Therefore being competitive for me is crucial. The Pro C900 will give us the edge over our competition. It’s more efficient and cost effective to run, with its inline finishing options.”
The Digital Print Centre produces between 90,000 and 100,000 colour pages per month -and this is on the increase – so speed, quality and reliability were important considerations that needed to be weighed up against the cost of the solution. Constant threat of outsourcing means that the centre must continue to provide the best service at the best price. Bertolotti saw that the Ricoh Pro C900 offered him that capability.
“This is a very important install for us. Tony is excited to act as a pioneer in the in-plant production space, and he knows he has an excellent team in Ricoh to back him,” said Kathy Wilson, General Manager of Production and Business Solutions for Ricoh Australia.
The Pro C900 is not the only highlight for Ricoh during PacPrint, where they will also be launching their latest range of black and white production engines – with speeds of up to 135ppm, these devices are built to meet any deadlines. During the event they will also be showcasing a comprehensive offering of end-to-end services, industry-leading inline finishing and software solutions.
Ricoh will be located at stand R30, and will be running various promotions during PacPrint, so grab a copy of PacPrint Daily each day to stay in touch with what they have to offer.
