UltraClean Solution Allows Metal Filter To Open

Tuesday 21. October 2008 - OYSTAR Hüttlin: Innovative Cleaning Concept

The task of cleaning machinery and moving parts is particularly important in pharmaceutical manufacturing. OYSTAR Hüttlin, a member of the OYSTAR Group, has designed UltraClean – an innovative solution that significantly reduces cleaning times and increases productivity, while at the same time ensuring highest cleaning quality.
Not only are the processes that take place in the OYSTAR Hüttlin fluid bed apparatus and high-shear mixer granulators very different in nature – the cleaning methods must be efficient and must meet the prescribed standards. This applies both to the standard wash-in-place (WiP) and UltraClean clean-in-place (CiP) processes.
OYSTAR Hüttlin engineers came up with the UltraClean solution when they were looking for ways to streamline the fully automatic cleaning process for the whole plant. In CiP systems, metal filters fitted with micron mesh screens typically cause cleaning problems on the clean gas side, which are aggravated by products that are prone to swelling. As a result, it may take a long time for the cleaning solution to drain. These problems have led to the development of complicated cleaning methods and are associated with very long drying times.
OYSTAR Hüttlin has designed an innovative metal filter that solves these problems by opening during the cleaning process: An internal cone in the filter cartridge is pushed downwards via a piston rod, causing the filter to open and allowing solids to be quickly rinsed away on the clean gas side. This cuts cleaning time appreciably without compromising cleanliness in any way.
