BLUE IS THE COLOUR

M&H Plastics has produced a stunning range of recyclable packaging for Neal’s Yard Remedies using their iconic midnight blue colouring proving that eco-friendly doesn’t have to mean dull

Thursday 21. August 2008 - M&H Plastics has produced a stunning range of recyclable packaging for Neal’s Yard Remedies using their iconic midnight blue colouring proving that eco-friendly doesn’t have to mean dull

The 200ml bottles of haircare and shower products have been manufactured in a rich transparent midnight blue from 100% PCR PET. PCR is Post Consumer Regrind material which has been reprocessed to be re-used in new manufacturing providing an efficient environmentally-friendly alternative to the traditional disposal of materials to landfills. PCR PET plastics can also conserve energy and non-renewable resources as recycling replaces the need for primary extraction and the manufacture of new plastics.

The bottles also feature M&H’s unique patented single wall X-Press Closure System. The injection moulded 3 component PP cap has a twin button configuration, giving a definite open/closed action. The cap functions with minimised friction to create a smooth action whilst acting against the sealing contact, and a tamper evident seal is broken by the first depression.

In addition a range of 150g tubes of body care and sun protection has been produced using recyclable material in the same iconic blue. The labels selected were produced by Royston Labels as their extra lightweight labelling solution provides extra flexibility to the tubes.

M&H Plastics is one of the premier suppliers of plastic components and manufactures bottles, caps, jars and flexible tubes for many end uses including personal care, healthcare, pharmaceutical, food plus many other market sectors where style and quality are critical to a product’s success.

Shaun Catchpole of M&H Plastics said:
‘With increased consumer demand for environmentally-friendly products M&H is pleased to offer a range of sustainable packaging solutions that can not only be manufactured in recycled plastics, but also materials that have been recovered from the waste stream, post consumer use. We are delighted to have worked with Neal’s Yard Remedies on this exciting project which demonstrates that PCR packaging can look attractive whilst being kind to the environment.’

Jo Everett of Neal’s Yard Remedies said:
‘We have an incredibly loyal customer base that expects Neal’s Yard Remedies to set an exemplary ethical standard across our product range, in both formulation and packaging. PCR PET material has been an ideal solution in the representation of our iconic blue glass bottles which are core to our branding, whilst maintaining the protective qualities to our organic formulations, alongside the clear environmental benefits associated with using a polymer material made from 100% PCR content and still recyclable. PET material has provided us with improved impact resistance and weight reductions in its replacement of PETG and glass bottle options respectively, whilst adding a much needed level of convenience to our customers.

As a carbon neutral company we are pleased by the reduction in CO2 footprint achieved with the move from PETG jars to tubes, and the use of Royston Labels lightweight substrate wrap around label to effectively carry our updated product designs.

Neal’s Yard Remedies approach packaging sustainability at a holistic level, and are delighted to have worked with M&H Plastics to develop these new solutions for our haircare, shower and sun ranges, continuing to raise the bar for the application of PCR materials and attractive packaging solutions based around improving sustainability.‘
