Friday 01. August 2008 - In mid-July a first line of the new Primera saddle stitcher series from Muller Martini was put into operation by AVD Goldach/Switzerland. "Crucial in our decision-making were the short changeover times, the high net performance, good trim quality and, naturally, the positive experience gained from years of working with such a reliable partner as Muller Martini", emphasizes AVD owner Kai Hebel.

AVD printing plant in Goldbach was established in 1930 as the joint stock company, the Aktiengesellschaft für Verlag und Druckerei. For many years the company, which was taken over by Kai Hebel in November 2005, has relied on technology from Muller Martini. This is why when the 23-year-old 300 saddle stitcher finally needed replacing, Kai Hebel had little hesitation in contacting Muller Martini. Even before drupa 08 had opened its doors he had already decided in favor of the highly automated Primera E140 saddle stitcher from Muller Martini’s Primera series.

The new line, which has recently been put into operation, consists of ten feeder stations fitted with Asir3 which can be loaded via a stream feeder 3738, the new three-knife trimmer 459 with fourth and fifth knife attachment, and a Robusto stacker to ensure the careful stacking of the products. Equipped with a full range of quality controls, the Primera E 140 is a flexible production line tailored to diverse requirements and characterized by a high degree of efficiency and product quality. The machine design which is based on the modern styling gleaned from the latest ergonomic studies makes sure that working on the machine is a pleasant experience. Added to this is an intelligent control concept which has a central touch screen and local operating units on all modules. The generous display offers optimum clarity, and the integrated set-up wizard simplifies changeover with its convenient operator guidance system.

Highest level of process reliability
Consistent processing of printed products at high speed calls for reliable feeders. The ten flat pile feeders permit the processing of all signature types, whether with low folio, high folio or without overlap. And reliable signature placement is supported by the new, ideal signature feeding with a hopper inclined at a 10° angle.

New Q stitching heads for the fastest job changeover times
The compact stitching unit of the Primera 140 is very clearly arranged and operator friendly with its large plexiglas doors. Stitching is performed according to the Muller Martini principle of “flying stitching heads” with the new, revolutionary Q stitching heads (quick set-up) which enables changeover times to be reduced by 50%.

The new robust three-knife trimmer 459 displays an impressive degree of high trim quality and superb process visibility. The trimming area is easily visible and accessible due to the hinged plexiglas hood. Trimming dynamics have been optimized. With increased trimming speeds thanks to these new trimming dynamics we also benefit with perfect trim quality and long knife life.

AVD Goldach is synonymous with quality products
At AVD Goldach, the Muller Martini slogan “Grow with us” has found exemplary implementation. With a workforce of around 200, AVD Goldbach has been working with a Prima saddle stitcher for ten years and for the past two years with a high performance Corona C13 perfect binder as well as press delivery systems with Floorveyor and Forte stackers from Muller Martini. “These are systems that reliably go about their task day after day”, says the owner Kai Hebel. And what’s more, with the highest degree of perfection so that more than100 magazine titles that are processed at AVD Goldach, are not only delivered to customers on time, but also of the highest quality.
