Tuesday 10. June 2008 - Unique solution automates and monitors processes

The manroland customer Limmatdruck/Zeiler presented the project “The Box Makers” at the manroland booth at drupa on May, 31. It is a film that illustrates a continuous JDF workflow for packaging printing.

The film was produced at Limmatdruck/Zeiler in Switzerland and features the entire packaging production process for the Migros enterprise in cooperation with Dr. Lauterbach & Partner (SAP), EskoArtwork (pre-press) and Bobst (die-cutting). The film is shown in the printnet area at manroland in PrintCity hall 6, booth D28 and is also available on DVD for fair visitors.

With automated software control, packaging production becomes more efficient and economic. The core of the JDF workflow is the LP.Packaging business solution by Dr. Lauterbach & Partner, which is based on SAP ERP. All work and control processes from product development to delivery proceed via a JDF port. As part of this set-up, the automatic printing press control via printnet PressManager perfect of manroland is a groundbreaking solution.

Faster print processes and perfect quality

As soon as the printing press receives the parameters for an order, it is automatically prepared for printing. printnet optimizes ink application and adjusts the inking units. Subsequently, Colormanagement monitors the consistent quality of the products, and the camera of the ROLAND InlineInspector also ensures faultless results. It checks predefined quality parameters and the InlineSorter then sorts out faulty sheets. Thanks to “non-stop” feeder and delivery, the printing process proceeds without interruptions at production run speed, even during pile changes. Plates are changed automatically and simultaneously at all printing couples.

Current status and costing constantly available

The operator monitors and controls the order progress from the production control console, including exact times and quantities. All participants in the production chain benefit from process control and transparency, which leads to great time, cost, and material savings.
