HAPA demonstrates a new heart for lean production

Wednesday 24. June 2015 - New legislation and the relentless drive for efficient production will shine a twin spotlight on packaging materials processing at ACHEMA 2015. Zurich-based Hapa AG is responding with a tour de force, presenting a line-up of in-house package printing solutions that promise to deliver flexibility and outstanding return on investment for lean and compliant packaging operations.

Center stage is the new Hapa 862, a modular in-house printing solution for any foil or label-printing application. At its heart is Hapa’s newest UV Drop on Demand (DOD) inkjet printing module, the “redcube plus” that prints 54 meters per minute at 720 dpi in a CMYK application or in up to four spot colors. Manufacturers control capital costs by configuring the Hapa 862 for current production requirements, secure in the knowledge that a simple upgrade path exists to meet new requirements as they arise. The system is available in top- or stand-mounted, or roll-to-roll executions. Additional modules cater for diverse requirements. Each can be incorporated with a simple mechanical and electrical interface. Adding or removing modules involves little more than a simple mechanical and electrical connection.
Award-winning HMI
Integrated into the system is Hapa’s new, recipe-driven Human Machine Interface (HMI), completing the Hapa 862’s innovative package. Co-developed with other Coesia companies, the user interface is designed with the packaging-line operator in mind, and reflects the need for usability and ease of integration into ERP and workflows. Already the winner of an iF Design Award 2015, and nominated for a German Design Award 2016, the new HMI pulls system information about its supported functions. The software monitors machine statistics as a form of maintenance tool, improving operation efficiency. The UI technology uses HTML5 web technology and is platform-independent, meaning that it runs in any of the leading web browsers, and offers clear separation from application logic.
redcube
Hapa’s original, compact redcube UV DOD printing module is deployed for a wide range of single-color coding, marking, and direct printing applications. It prints in both horizontal and vertical orientations and UV-LED curing ensures printed substrates or products are ready for immediate onward processing.
Blow Fill Seal Printing Unit
Hapa will operate two of its original redcubes at ACHEMA, one in a new Blow Fill Seal application. In an efficient and economical alternative to embossing and labeling, information is printed directly onto the vial surface. The exhibit will also feature precision transport from FlexLink that ensures accurate print placement, and a camera inspection system from Laetus for quality control. The second redcube will print visitors’ personal data including a QR code directly onto business-card holders.
Hapa Hybrid – a bestseller
The Hapa Hybrid is a bestseller that combines economical UV flexo and highly flexible, full digital UV DOD printers into a single, agile unit. The two can be operated independently or in tandem to optimize economy and quality for each run, no matter what the batch size.
The Hybrid is available configured to print up to four colors on a variety of blank or pre-printed roll-fed substrates, including aluminum foil, paper, PVC, medical paper and Tyvek, in web widths up to 370mm at speeds up to 18.5 meters per minute. At ACHEMA, the Hybrid will demonstrate two-color printing on aluminum foil.
Hapa Ink
The Hapa Ink division develops, produces, and delivers bespoke inks to exact client specifications for all foil substrates, plastic, glass, aluminum or label material of any kind. In keeping with Hapa philosophy, any volume of ink, no matter how small, can be supplied.
Customer-specific packaging of the inks round out the services offered. Specialty inks include high-density white and low migration and their performance will be demonstrated in all printing applications on the Hapa booth.
