The Brazilian newspaper publisher Grupo Sinos is investing in the expansion of their UNISET from manroland web systems.

Tuesday 07. June 2016 - Grupo Sinos, the largest newspaper publisher in the Novo Hamburgo region in the Brazilian federal state of Rio Grande do Sul, surprised many with their decision to retrofit their existing UNISET.

“We are convinced that it was the correct decision to commission an expansion of our UNISET system from manroland web systems, both because of the huge potential of the machine as well as the proven quality of the equipment. We have invested under ideal conditions in the retrofitting of our existing machine, which is now as modern as a new machine. The complete control system and electrics are now at the cutting edge of technology and the mechanical systems have also benefited from the innovations of manroland web systems!,” explains Fernando Alberto Gusmão, managing director at Grupo Sinos.

Up to now it was only possible for the Brazilian newspaper publisher to produce 32 page 4 colour products. Thanks to the retrofit of the UNISET system from manroland web systems, they can now run 80 page products in one single web path. It has also allowed for an expansion of capacity, because now two differing printed products can be produced simultaneously.

The company has also invested, alongside the UNISET retrofit, in a new CtP-System (Computer to Plate) and in a new building. In order to make the complete investment of about three million euros work, a increase in capital was carried out in which employees of Grupo Sinos could participate. The employees are presently involved to a level of 14% of the printing houses capital. In addition, accruals out of the profits of the preceding years were used. “We were not dependent on a bank loan in order to realise this investment. Instead we managed to cover the entire value of the project, completely in-house,” reports Fernando Alberto Gusmão proudly.

The retrofit was carried out in cooperation with the strongly performing business partner manroland web systems and their Brazilian sales and trading partner groupwork. The Grupo Sinos printing house worked hand in hand with both suppliers. This effective cooperation meant that the expansion of the UNISET could be quickly and successfully realised.

Grupo Sinos was established in 1957 and among other newspapers, it presently prints the Jornal NH (Notícias de Novo Hamburgo e região), which with a circulation of about 40,000 copies is in ninth position among the rankings of Brazilian newspapers. In addition they publish the Jornal VS (Notícias de Vale do Sinos e região) in São Leopoldo with 14,700 subscribers. Their special Sunday edition with a total circulation of 66,000 copies is ranked in eighth position in the highest circulation rankings among Brazilian newspapers. 98 % of these copies are for subscribers, which represents a notable figure for Grupo Sinos.
