Global canmakers meet in China
Thursday 07. May 2009 - Cannex Asia Pacific 2009 - The World Canmaking Congress, will be visiting China for the first time in June.
Sales of canned foods in China rose last year by a third to more than ¥50 billion (US$7.5bn), making the market the fastest growing in the world. That is why manufacturers of metal cans from around the world are meeting in China for Cannex Asia Pacific, the biggest showcase for canmaking technology which this June is being held in Guangzhou.
Hosted at international venues since 1994, Cannex Asia Pacific 2009 is the years key event for those involved in metal packaging. It is the place where the world’s leading equipment and materials suppliers will be introducing their latest developments to the decision makers from the global canmaking community.
Among the new equipment being highlighted at the show, will be latest roll-forming machines for shaping processes on DRD cans and lids which are being introduced by German manufacturer Biagosch & Brandau (Bibra). The systems are particularly suited for small cans such as those used for tobacco products, cosmetics, shoe polish or confectionery.
Spanish company Industrias Peñalver will be featuring a dual-loop system for its end curing ovens. This allows the curing time for the sealants to be increased without any loss of line speed, thus offering energy savings.
Also new at the show, Germany’s Heilbronn will be introducing a range of presses, including a high-speed shell press that operates at speeds of up to 600 shells a minute and an end conversion press that produces up to 700 items a minute.
Can body welding machinery specialists Soudronic of Switzerland will exhibit its AFB640 model that was assembled at the companys facility in Guangzhou, China, and which operates at speeds of up to 400 cans a minute.
US company CTI Extreme Inks will be showing its thermochromic inks that are used on beer cans to indicate when the drinks have been chilled to the optimum temperature. The company says that the colour-changing ink, that has already been used on 32cl cans to celebrate the Chinese New Year, could appear on five-litre mini-kegs by mid-June and on metal bottles by September.
Test and inspection equipment will feature strongly at Cannex with UK-based TRAC Measurements launching its Z313 enamel rater at the show. The equipment uses a customised system to fill cans with electrolyte solution prior to testing the internal coating with an electric current. The volumetric metered filling system is said to have a fill height control of within 0.5mm, to prevent the testing process from missing the top section of the can wall due to short fills.
US vision inspection system manufacturer Applied Vision will promote its recently-developed defect classification technology, as well as the latest improvements to its KromaKing colour inspection system.
Another US company, curing oven specialist International Thermal Systems (ITS) will introduce an energy saving kit at Cannex. Claims of up to 50 per cent energy savings are made by using lower temperatures in the oven with potential speeds of up to 4,000 cans a minute.
Cannex Asia Pacific will be held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, an area rich in industry and manufacturing, and home to a number of canmaking plants, owned by both Chinese and international companies.
