DuPont Tyvek Transcovers Available in Japan
Tuesday 09. September 2008 - DuPont-Asahi Flash Spun Products Co., Ltd. has begun sales of Tyvek Transcovers protection sheets, which are used to prevent damage to painted surfaces of new cars during transportation. The company announced that the products have been adopted by Toyota Motor Corporation for use on Lexus models for shipment in Japan.
Tyvek Transcovers are applied to new vehicles upon completion of assembly. They protect painted surfaces from ultraviolet light, acid rain, falling objects and other potential threats, helping to ensure that the vehicles can be transported safely to inspection sites or dealerships.
During transportation, vehicles are generally covered with impermeable sheeting, which is fixed to the entire exterior with adhesives. This can lead to discoloration, stains and adhesive residues. In some cases repair work is required. Tyvek Transcovers are made from Tyvek nonwoven fabric, which is permeable to both air and moisture.
Because the covers are custom made for each model, the amount of adhesive used can be minimized, reducing the amount of repair work required. Operating efficiency also benefits, since the covers are designed for easy application and removal.
“I am impressed by Toyotas decision to use this technology for the Lexus, which reflects their determination to spare no effort to ensure the safe, reliable delivery of their top-of-the-range vehicles,” said Barry Granger, vice president and general manager, DuPont Nonwovens.
