Alupak wins Alufoil-Trophy with PeeliCan

Friday 02. May 2008 - Alupak bags yet another award with the Alufoil Trophy 2008, which it was awarded for its innovative PeeliCan packaging system. PeeliCan was developed in collaboration between the Swiss company Alupak and Alcan Packaging (Singen and Rorschach) and has already made a name for itself in the market as a highly efficient product.

“PeeliCan is an extremely innovative type of packaging system. It is highly user-friendly and, by replacing the traditional ring-pull containers previously used for packaging fish, it is now moving deep-drawn aluminium packaging into a range of new markets.” explained Arne Russ, Head of Purchasing and Packaging Expert at August Storck.

When it comes to packaging fish products, one of the major difficulties experienced by fillers is container filling accuracy – i.e. making sure that the rim and lid of the container into which the fish product is filled is 100% clean. However, the innovative, patented ultrasonic sealing technology used with the PeeliCan filling system ensures that even rims and lids contaminated with product filling can be sealed safely and without any problems.

The major advantages PeeliCan presents to fillers, retailers and consumers are its low weight, stackability (thanks to the can’s tapered shape) and extremely user-friendly opening-mechanism. “Our PeeliCans simply don’t have any pull-rings that can come off and their lids are extremely easy to open and remove – finally making product spills a thing of the past.” elaborated Alupak-CEO Andy Swaker.

PeeliCans feature a specialist finish and are manufactured from 130 ? aluminium foil. This represents a weight reduction of up to 35% compared to traditional ring-pull packaging solutions, which are generally manufactured using 180µ to 200µ aluminium foils.

In addition to the above advantages, which were sufficient to convince the Alufoil Trophy award panel, its multi-coloured, rotogravure printed finish furthermore make the PeeliCan highly effective for communicating brand images. “Since 70% of all buying decisions are made at the point of sale, it is vital for products to stand out positively from their competitors in order to compete successfully.” explained Andy Swaker. “Winning this year’s Alufoil Trophy is also sending an important signal to the entire aluminium industry, because it exemplifies that successful product developments can create significant competitive and ecological advantages with respect to conventional ring-pull packaging.” concluded the Alupak CEO.
