Koehler Paper launches Koehler NexPure Wrap for quick service system gastronomy at FachPack

Monday 26. September 2022 - Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, is adding Koehler NexPure Wrap to its portfolio of flexible packaging papers. The paper for wrapping hamburgers and wraps appeals primarily to the quick-service catering industry.

Consumers’ desire for sustainable products and packaging has long since found its way into the fast-food sector as well, which is why the system catering industry is also increasingly seeking solutions for this. Koehler Paper will be presenting its product Koehler NexPure Wrap, a sustainable and lightweight packaging paper for fast food products, to the public for the first time at the Fachpack trade fair in Nuremberg from 27-29 September.
Packaging for burgers & co. with high-quality barrier function uses natural raw materials
Koehler Paper has already invested 300 million euros in the flexible packaging paper business unit in 2019 with production line 8. Since then, flexible packaging papers with barrier coatings with different functionalities have been produced on the largest MG paper machine in the world. These are in particular barriers for aroma, fat, mineral oil or even oxygen. Koehler papers offer what packaging needs: protection of the contents, protection of the environment and excellent processing properties.
With its latest development – Koehler NexPure Wrap – Koehler Paper, as one of the leading suppliers of papers with disruptive barrier functions for packaging solutions, is now also focusing on the fast food market. The new paper for packaging hamburgers and wraps is produced in a grammage of 29.5 and relies on natural raw materials for the barrier function. Christoph Wachter, division manager of flexible packaging papers at Koehler Paper, says: “With this new development, we have a sustainable fast-food packaging that does completely without a fluorochemical coating while offering the same functionality.” The primary fibre used in the product is exclusively pulp from certified sustainable forestry and controlled sources. “Koehler NexPure Wrap complements our “Seal & Wrap” campaign perfectly and, with its very good grease barrier and adapted water vapour barrier, is a great alternative to the not fully recyclable solutions that are currently still widely used in quick service system catering,” Wachter adds. Koehler NexPure Wrap will primarily be used for packaging hamburgers, sandwiches or wraps.
Fully recyclable paper for hamburgers and wraps underlines sustainability efforts of system catering to the consumer
The main advantage of Koehler NexPlus barrier papers is that they are based on renewable raw materials. They can be fed 100 percent into the recycling cycle, which works for paper in many countries worldwide and is accepted by the consumer. The focus is on the reuse of the high-quality paper fibre after the product has been used, in keeping with the idea of the circular economy.
Koehler NexPure Wrap is another product in Koehler’s range of flexible packaging papers, which impress with their low grammages and very good processing and printing properties. The introduction of further products with complementary barrier functions as part of the “Seal & Wrap” campaign is planned for the coming months.
