Koehler Paper rebuilds paper machine 5 for more sustainable production

Tuesday 10. August 2021 - Koehler Paper is also relying on Voith for the second expansion phase of paper machine 5 in Oberkirch. After the second rebuild phase, a new NipcoFlex shoe press in the existing press section ensures more sustainable production.

Successful cooperation between Koehler and Voith
After the first rebuild stage of paper machine 5 in Oberkirch with the installation of the Voith SpeedSizer film press and the contactless qDryPro Compact high-performance drying system was successful, Koehler now confirms its confidence in Voith. Hartmut Felsch, plant manager at Koehler’s Oberkirch site: “In Voith we have found a strong and reliable partner with the highest quality standards for all areas of paper production.”
Thorsten Heidt, Senior Sales Manager at Voith, also confirms: “We have enjoyed a successful business relationship with Koehler for many years. Only recently, Koehler was able to achieve a world speed record with the new production line 8 at the Kehl location thanks to our successful cooperation and continuous optimisation. We are very pleased that Koehler has now chosen our leading technologies again.”
More sustainability and production capacities through new technologies
In the second modernisation stage, the NipcoFlex shoe press, the tried and tested technology of the full-line supplier Voith, will be used. The aim is to achieve optimum production results. With the installation of the NipcoFlex shoe press in the existing press section, the dry content after the press is significantly increased. This saves large amounts of steam in the dryer section for drying the paper web. The rebuild thus contributes to saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions in the plant. In addition, the increased dry content increases the line speed and production capacity. At the same time, the cantilever chair for the pick-up felt improves working safety and ease of operation when drawing in the felt. The conversion is a customised solution and addresses the limited space available, especially on the drive side of the machine. Within the scope of the rebuild, both the transfer process from the press to the dryer section is optimised and a tension reduction is achieved in order to significantly increase efficiency.
The press roll uses a TerraSpeed Trend Supreme ceramic coating, which is also used on other Koehler Paper machines. This guarantees optimised sheet delivery with long running times and a high level of cleanliness. The order is complemented by the proven QualiFlex shoe press sleeves and a start-up set for all press felts.
