Canon opens polymer ink production plant in Venlo (NL)

Friday 18. February 2022 - In response to growing demand for industrial production printing systems, Canon has opened a state-of-the-art facility for the production of water-based polymer inks at its Venlo site in the Netherlands. The new factory has created 30 new jobs.

Located on the German-Dutch border near Düsseldorf, the new factory covers 1,500 m². It is equipped with the most modern systems, which feature the highest degree of automation. This ensures the consistently high quality of the water-based, polymer CMYK inks.
In 2021, Canon was named EMEA market leader in the continuous feed and sheetfed inkjet heavy production printing segments by market research firms Infosource and Keypoint Intelligence. Canon’s ColorStream, ProStream and varioPRINT iX series inkjet presses have proven to be compelling investment options for commercial printers and online print service providers thanks to their outstanding offset-like quality, highly reliable throughput and application flexibility. The success of these systems has enabled Canon to maintain its leadership position in continuous feed inkjet printing and to take the lead in single-sheet inkjet production. To support its growing customer base and ever-increasing print volumes in applications such as high-value promotional materials, transactional printing, direct mail, books, catalogues and magazines, Canon has increased production capacity for water-based polymer inks with the commissioning of the new facility.
Rob Puts, Vice President Manufacturing and Logistics at Canon Production Printing, explains, “Our water-based polymer inks were developed entirely in-house, and like all of our internally developed technologies, we tested them in our research and development department. Having proven the inks in the market, we have invested in this new facility to meet growing customer demand as well as further increases in demand. The highly automated facility is geared towards the production of water-based polymer inks that can be used in our various inkjet production systems and has been built to accommodate any growth our customers may experience. The plant enables us to offer our customers the best high-volume inkjet production printers on the market. We are confident that the new facility will support our customers’ business growth and enable them to produce high quality products.”
