TU DORTMUND UNIVERSITY TO USE CONTENT-X FOR TEACHING AND RESEARCH

Thursday 11. December 2014 - How does an editorial company work? This is what approx. 100 students at the Institute of Journalism at the Technical University of Dortmund are investigating. Their main focus is directed at the link between theory and practice and what the distinctive characteristics of quality journalism are.

How can topics be produced for multiple channels and presented interactively? For a number of years already, the Institute of Journalism has been using DC-X, a digital asset management system developed by Digital Collections. Now, the management has decided to install the complete solution: as from now, the Institute of Journalism will use Content-X, the editorial system jointly developed by ppi Media and Digital Collections.
Hamburg, December 4, 2014. Content-X is an all-rounder which combines the functions of the Digital Asset Management System DC-X with those of InDesign. This solution, which was jointly developed by ppi Media and Digital Collections, processes media-neutral content, so that journalists can use it for different media channels. This enables media companies to prepare cross-media stories easily and efficiently for Online, Mobile, Tablet and Print. This editorial solution is already being used by a large number of publishers and will now, for the very first time, be used for training journalists at university: the Institute of Journalism at TU Dortmund University has decided to install the complete solution. “This will allow our students to gain practical knowledge of how multi-channel publishing works for our campus magazine ‘pflichtlektüre’,” explains Tobias Schweigmann, a qualified journalist who teaches online journalism, cross-media studies and editorial quality management at TU Dortmund University.

DC-X, Digital Collections’ digital asset management system, links the TV, Radio, Print and Online newsrooms at the Institute of Journalism: “DC-X bundles all the editorial articles and makes working with different media incredibly simple. As part of our goal to offer modern, cross-media training, the decision to install Content-X was the next logical step for us,” explains Tobias Schweigmann. Content-X will replace the existing editorial system from another supplier.
