Building on Strength

Monday 17. June 2013 - It's never easy to raise $40 million but that is the goal of Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, as it approaches its 100th anniversary.

Widely regarded as one of Canada’s foremost boarding schools, Shawnigan’s dedication to an education that encompasses the mind, body, character and spirit has never wavered. They chose Michael Patrick Partners in Portland, OR, to help them produce an invitation to become part of that legacy. The resulting development campaign case statement titled, Building on Strength, is an embodiment of those same attributes that the school strives to nurture in their students—it’s smart, has character and evokes emotion in the prospective donor.
Michael Patrick Partners definitely embraced the school motto: Mediocrity is not an option. They cleverly specified four shades of Mohawk Carnival Vellum—black, white, yellow and ivory—and used them to keep the pace of the book interesting. The toothy finish gives the piece a lush tactility that encourages the reader to flip the pages and tasteful touches of both gold and white foil stamping accentuate important numeric milestones in the copy.
Duane “Doo” Maidens, partner and creative director at Michael Patrick Partners stated, “We’ve had a love affair with Mohawk paper for many years. When a client wants to make a special connection with the audience, we recommend Mohawk. We’re guaranteed an engaging tactile experience and paper that we’re confident will showcase photography. We specify Mohawk for our annual reports, corporate publications, and brochures—high creative standards require the best.”
There was an investment in photography which is not often the case in school publications and Printing Today, also in Portland, did a great job of keeping the imagery clean and bright on the uncoated stock.
