FABIO SCHVARTSMAN, CEO OF KLABIN, NAMED RISI LATIN AMERICAN CEO OF THE YEAR

Friday 31. May 2013 - Analysts remark on success through cost cutting programs, expansion projects and commercial strategy

Mr. Fabio Schvartsman, Chief Executive Officer of Klabin, has been named the 2013 Latin American CEO of the Year by RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry. The award will be presented to Mr. Schvartsman at the Eighth Annual RISI Latin American Pulp and Paper Outlook Conference on August 6, 2012 in São Paulo, Brazil.
Under Mr. Schvartsman’s leadership, Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer, has continued to consistently outperform competitors and has significantly improved its financial position over the recent past. This is the second year in a row Mr. Schvartsman has won the RISI Latin American CEO of the Year Award. The award, presented to outstanding leaders in the pulp and paper industry, is selected based on a survey to a group of investment analysts and portfolio managers who cover the forest products industry, using criteria that include leadership, vision and strategic accomplishment.
Analysts nominated Mr. Schvartsman once again this year because of the company’s consistent financial performance, with one saying: “I think he deserves the premium because of his in-house cost-cutting program, realistic approach toward new expansion projects and commercial strategy”.
Prior to joining Klabin, Mr. Schvartsman was president of San Antonio Internacional and president of Telemar Participações S.A. With a graduate and post-graduate degree in Production Engineering from University of Sao Paulo and post-graduate degree in Business Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas, Mr. Schvartsman has held various leadership positions at Ultrapar (Grupo Ultra): he was CFO (Ultrapar), managing partner (Ultra SA – parent company of Ultrapar), CEO (Ultraprev), Investor Relations Officer, Planning and Control Director and Head of Planning. He also served as Head of the Department of Planning, Head of Development Division and Head of Department of Economic Studies at Duratex. He is member of the Board of Directors of Duratex, Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição (CBD) and Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.
RISI’s Latin American Pulp and Paper Outlook Conference will feature presentations from industry leaders and experts, along with RISI’s economists and engineers, who will give their outlooks for key segments of the Latin American and global forest products industry.
RISI’s Latin American CEO of the Year Award was first presented in 2007. RISI organizes four regional CEO awards each year for Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America, with the winner presented at the regional RISI conferences. In addition, the Global CEO of the Year Award is presented at the PPI Awards event, held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Istanbul December 10, 2013.
