WARNERS INVESTS IN TEN-COLOUR ROLAND 700 PERFECTOR
Thursday 22. July 2010 - Warners Midlands Plc, the Lincolnshire-based magazine, brochure and catalogue printing specialist, has invested in a ten-colour ROLAND 700 HiPrint perfecting press which is due for installation and commissioning in July 2010.
The new ROLAND replaces a Heidelberg CD 102LX UV 4 colour with UV coater, and will significantly increase production capacity as well as complement its extensive web press operation which includes a 32-page LITHOMAN and various Komori/Heidelberg machines.
Says Martin Harris, Senior Production Manager, Warners Midlands: “The new ROLAND 700 is a welcome addition to our production capabilities and were looking forward to getting it up and running. The manroland team worked closely with us through a very thorough consultation and evaluation process where we looked at all the big press manufacturers. We were very impressed with the performance of the ROLAND 700 in all the trials we undertook.”
Mr Harris says new ROLAND will be used to print a variety of products. “We needed a machine that could stand up to the rigorous demands of our printing operation, and, given the wide variety of products well be printing on it, could offer rapid change-over and make ready times.
“There are host of features on this press including automatic plate changing, QuickChange make ready technologies, impression cylinder wash-up, ColorPilot colour control system and non-stop delivery, all of which mean this machine will offer us a real competitive edge when it comes to creating even greater efficiencies and reducing waste. The fact that we can print using a reel sheeter as well as cut sheets is also a major advantage in terms of the flexibility it offers us.”
manrolands range of QuickChange technologies drastically reduce make ready times. QuickChange Coating enables the press to be changed from UV to dispersion coating in only 15 minutes. QuickChange Surface can cut the time needed for cleaning the ink fountain by 50 percent. QuickChange Color reduces re-start waste, and QuickChange Job automatically adjusts the height of the gripper bars in the infeed drum and transferters. With the non-stop feeder and delivery, piles are changed at production speed. This saves time, especially when running thicker substrates, and can be linked to AUPASYS, the worlds leading automated pallet transport system.
Warners Midlands have also signed up to manrolands printservices service and support packages including Telepresence which will provide the company with rapid diagnostic support and assistance.
Says Adam Robotham, Commercial Sales Manager, manroland GB: “Warners takes its environmental credentials and credibility very seriously so the fact that the ROLAND 700 can also run completely alcohol-free was a key component in the decision to invest in manrolands technology. The ROLAND 700 is a hugely versatile machine as its transferter technology allows mark free perfecting of everything from the thinnest papers and foils to light carton. As such, it offers Warners considerable scope for growth, and not just in their core markets. All printers must keep their ability to quickly diversify whilst maintaining core strengths at the core of their commercial strategy. The ROLAND 700 is giving Warners exactly that.”
