MANROLAND GB AWARDED ISO 14001

Norman Revill

Wednesday 20. May 2009 - manroland GB has announced that it has been awarded the highly respected ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management systems at its headquarters in Mitcham, London, which it officially achieved on the 28th April 2009.

ISO 14001 is universally accepted as the standard for specifying the requirements for an environmental management system and the company has implemented a number of waste saving and recycling processes in order to achieve the accreditation. These include recycling as much of the waste created by the day-to-day running of the business as possible and 100 percent of its paper waste. manroland GB has also taken great steps towards becoming more energy efficient by eliminating almost all unnecessary use of electric lighting and air-conditioning.

Said Norman Revill, manroland GB’s Managing Director: “We are delighted to have been accredited with the internationally recognised ISO 14001 standard. As well as its clear benefits to the environment, I think it’s an important tool for helping to focus the industry on the issues at hand. We mustn’t be complacent or ignore the responsibility we as an industry – and society in general has towards the environment. In line with this, achieving the ISO 14001 standard is just the next step for us, and we will continue to seek further improvements throughout the business, building on what we have learned during this process.”

Annie Clough, manroland GB’s Human Resources Manager, was responsible for managing manroland GB’s ISO 14001 project: “Globally, manroland is determined to reduce pollution and environmental hazards and here in the UK we wanted to reaffirm our commitment to the environment in the eyes of our customers. Prior to our achieving ISO 14001, many customers had enquired whether or not we held the accreditation and we’re proud to be playing a key role in their efforts to secure an environmentally sound supply chain.

“Gaining ISO 14001 was truly a team effort – and it has to be, as it is based on an assessment of the whole business. It would be impossible, for instance, to comply with the separation of waste for recycling without the commitment of every member of each department, and so everyone here at manroland GB must take a share of the credit for a job well done.”
