Two Muller Martini Customers Shine Thanks to their High Level of Production Process Automation

CIPPI Award for Cloître Imprimeurs (France) and Emirates Printing Press (Dubai)

Wednesday 16. September 2009 - CIPPI Award for Cloître Imprimeurs (France) and Emirates Printing Press (Dubai)

Muller Martini customers Cloître Imprimeurs (France) and Emirates Printing Press (Dubai) have been singled out for their high level of production process automation with the “2009 CIP4 International Print Production Innovation (CIPPI) Award” at Print 09 in Chicago. The new digital Connex workflow system from Muller Martini played a significant part in the nomination of both operations for this coveted award.

Cloître Imprimeurs, based in Brest, Brittany, received the CIPPI award for the “Best Process Automation Implementation in Europe” thanks to it being one of the first graphic company in France to invest in a Primera C130. The saddle stitcher, from the new Muller Martini machine generation, has six feeders and cover feeders and is fully integrated into the JDF workflow together with the new Komori 8-color printing press via the Connex digital workflow system. JDF integration offers great advantages for Cloître Imprimeurs, especially when it comes to production feedback with lots of detailed information about current and finalized jobs.

Emirates Printing Press, winner of the “Best Process Automation Implementation – Emerging Markets” award, was the first graphic company in the Gulf region to implement the Connex system. The Connex workflow system acts as a connecting link with the Management Information System (MIS) that connects the prepress, the printing presses, the Corona C15 high-speed perfect binder, and the PrimaPlus Tandem Amrys saddle stitcher from Muller Martini. For CEO Mohamed Abdulla Al Shirawi, the Connex has countless advantages: “We can process CIP4/JDF data simply and easily, especially for repeat jobs, and the Connex not only helps us to avoid duplication of data entry work; it also reduces the error rate, thereby saving time and money.”

Connex: An Open System with Five Modules

As an interface between the Management Information System (MIS) and standalone machines or a whole production system, the Connex digital workflow system from Muller Martini is an open system that operates with five different modules:
? Connex.Info enables transparency in production by mapping the current status of the production lines and the status of orders.
? Connex.Edit allows customers who do not have MIS or the relevant software to create orders in JDF format.
? Connex.Plan provides a platform for scheduling orders and assigning them to machines, including machines that are not JDF-compatible.
? Connex.Prod executes the JDF and communicates with all the machines involved in the order. The program gathers all incoming operational data on an ongoing basis.
? Connex.Link also makes it possible to include machines that are not JDF-enabled and products from other manufacturers in the workflow.
