Xeikon Mobile Printing Unit Earns Its Stripes at NATO NDC Greece

The Xeikon Mobile Printing unit boasts the same functionality as a standard Xeikon digital printing press, and features a print resolution of 600dpi with 4-bit dot depth.

Tuesday 23. June 2009 - Xeikon, a division of Punch Graphix, has installed a bespoke Xeikon Mobile Printing Unit at the NATO Deployable Corps in Greece (NDC-GR).

The Xeikon Mobile Printing Unit affords the NDC-GR complete flexibility, and can be rapidly deployed anywhere in the world in minimal time. The system allows users to quickly print static and dynamic maps, as well any other printed material that an army unit might need during operations.

Innovation tailored for NATO
The innovative Mobile Printing Unit has been designed specifically to meet the needs of NATO. The Xeikon system boasts the same functionality as a standard Xeikon digital printing press, and features a print resolution of 600dpi with 4-bit dot depth. The Mobile Printing Unit incorporates Xeikon’s One-Pass-Duplex technology, enabling the machine to print simultaneously on both sides. It can print on all kinds of media from 40 up to 250 grams/sqm, plus it can handle forms 508mm wide, with no restrictions in height.

In addition to the unique One-Pass-Duplex technology, Xeikon uses the pioneering FA toner, which offers exceptional print quality. It also incorporates the digital console, X -800 Digital Front End (DFE), which combines wide-scale operations, including one fast RIP with possibilities for variable data and composition.

“The Xeikon Mobile Printing Unit is a very impressive flexible digital printing unit,” says Christos Anastasiou, Managing Director of Punch Graphix S.E. Europe. “It can be de-installed, reinstalled and ready for printing in less than 6 hours, easily meeting the specifications set by the NDC-GR.”

“This pilot project for NATO has proved a huge success. The fact that an organization the size of NATO has given the Mobile Printing Unit its approval is a ringing endorsement for the system’s performance.”

Agile and secure on the move
The Mobile Printing Unit is installed in a container that is prepared to military specifications and can be deployed anywhere. For added assurance, the machine has been adapted so that it can be transported easily and securely. It takes minimal time to lock and move the machine, and very little time to unlock it and prepare it for printing, making it ideal for even the most demanding conditions. The container can be also used for marine transport, and even air transportation if required.

Xeikon Mobile Printing Unit on manoeuvres
The Xeikon Mobile Printing Unit was first presented during the annual Steadfast Joist – Gordian Knot 09 training exercise, on 31 March 2009, in Litochoro, Pieria (central Macedonia). During the exercise, the Xeikon printing system printed maps of the region and multilingual instruction handbooks. Army officers commended the printing unit for enabling same-day printing of the exercise results together with new, updated maps.
