Screen (USA) to Introduce Flexible UV Inkjet Inks for Industrial Products at NPE 2009

Instrument panels: The Truepress Jet650UV brings exceptional quality and print-on-demand efficiency to the production of automotive instrument clusters and other vehicle dashboards and gauges.

Thursday 18. June 2009 - When Screen (USA) demonstrates the high-precision, high-quality imaging produced by the Truepress Jet650UV at NPE 2009 this month in Chicago, the spotlight will also be on Screen's newly developed ultraviolet (UV) inkjet inks.

Coinciding with the U.S. trade show premiere of the Truepress Jet650UV, the Rolling Meadows, Ill.-based supplier of digital printing systems is introducing flexible UV inks for the flatbed inkjet printer.

In UV-curable inks, UV light is used to provide rapid curing upon transfer of the ink onto the substrate. Screen’s UV inkjet inks are specially formulated for the industrial arena since any variability in the quality of the ink could result in rejected parts. They offer superior adhesion to many difficult substrates and exhibit better durability and abrasion resistance than solvent or aqueous inks. This makes the Truepress Jet650UV a versatile performer for applications that utilize ABS resin, acrylic, PVC, PET and polycarbonate.

The UV inks’ fast curing allows for inline processing, an important productivity feature for industrial applications. The high degree of flexibility ensures excellent stretching properties. The inks resist cracking or peeling even when formed into three-dimensional molded products, such as 3D instrument clusters or sample cans for automated beverage dispensers.

The environmental impact of Screen’s UV inks is significantly lower than other inks, thanks to the absence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and the reduced energy requirements associated with drying. This feature will appeal to users that are strict about maintaining an environmentally friendly operation.

Screen enhanced the four-color (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) ink set for the Truepress Jet650UV with the option of additional white, clear and black inks. The white ink option affords customers a wider range of choices for dark or clear substrates, and additional black heads add masking and transparency capabilities. Among their many uses is a second surface printing for the CMYK colors on transparent substrates.

Screen (USA) will launch the flexible UV inks for the Truepress Jet650UV in booth #109054 at NPE 2009, June 22-26 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
