CTP - Computer to Plate

Screen PlateRite Niagara Eases Transition to High-Quality CTP

PlateRite Niagara: The PlateRite Niagara enables even the smallest print shops to deliver higher quality.

Thursday 26. February 2009 - Screen has long been at the forefront of transitioning from film-based prepress production to thermal plate imaging. The comprehensive portfolio of PlateRite computer-to-plate (CTP) imaging systems is designed to make production and makeready faster and more efficient for print providers of all sizes and capabilities.

The PlateRite family spans two-up (B3) to VLF plate production formats. The varying levels of throughput, imaging resolution and automation help printers maximize their investment in CTP.

At Graphics of the Americas 2009, Screen (USA) will demonstrate the thermal quality and consistency of the PlateRite Niagara, Screen’s low-cost eight-up (B1) CTP solution.

“The PlateRite Niagara provides an incredibly affordable entry into thermal plate production,” said Mike Fox, president of Screen (USA). “It is an excellent choice of systems for firms that seek a smooth transition to CTP. It offers daylight operation with a small footprint and a growth path toward processless/chemistry-free CTP.”

The PlateRite Niagara enables even the smallest print shops to deliver higher quality. The PlateRite Niagara is an easy-to-use platesetter that accommodates plate sizes from 12 inches x 14.6 inches (304 mm x 370 mm) to 41.7 inches x 32.3 inches (1,060 mm x 820 mm). Simple plate loading and unloading contribute to the efficiency of the plate-making process.

To suit an array of job requirements, the exposure head on the PlateRite Niagara supports adjustable resolutions of 2,400 dpi, 2,438 dpi and 2,540 dpi. The 84-channel imaging head enhances parallel imaging, making it possible to output 11 plates per hour at 2,400 dpi. Individually replaceable laser diodes ensure high uptime and low service cost.

Screen’s auto-balance feature allows the PlateRite Niagara to adapt to different plate sizes without making manual adjustments for correct drum balance. The operator simply selects the type of plate to be used, and the PlateRite Niagara automatically makes the necessary adjustments to create the perfect drum balance for each plate.
