Fineline Printing Creates More Capacity with New Speedmaster CD 102

Monday 08. June 2009 - Fineline Printing, a 27-year-od commercial printer located in Indianapolis, Ind. was already running its Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 6-color perfector around the clock when the company took delivery of a new Speedmaster CD 102 5-color press with coater, Preset Plus delivery and Peak Performance Package last year.

With the addition of the new, larger-format press, the company not only has freed up a lot of the Speedmaster CD 74’s capacity, but now has the flexibility to do more multiple-ups at faster speeds and with shorter turnaround times, the better to handle the wide variety of projects from brochures to annual reports to folding cartons.

“We achieve faster makereadies, faster running speeds and greater all-around productivity with the Speedmaster CD 102,” said pressroom manager Roy Keen. “In essence, we’ve picked up another shift since installing the new press.” Keen specifically credits the redesigned Preset Plus delivery on the CD 102 with providing better sheet control, thereby enhancing the speed and consistency with which it prints. Fineline also uses Heidelberg Saphira rollers, ink foils and Perfect Dot Blankets to enhance the performance of its new press. In addition to its existing Speedmaster SM 74 perfector and new CD 102, Fineline operates a 5-color Speedmaster SM 52 perfector, a 2-color MOZ perfector and three Printmaster QM 46 2-color presses, as well as a Heidelberg Windmill letterpress and a Heidelberg flatbed die cutter. The company’s bindery houses three programmable POLAR paper cutters and no fewer than five Stahlfolders in various format sizes. “We keep buying Heidelberg because of the quality built into every machine,” Keen said. “The fact that our customers seem to care about that is reason enough for us to keep buying Heidelberg.”

Minority-owned Fineline Printing serves a national base made up of industrial, pharmaceutical, governmental and ad agency clients, and was the first commercial offset printer in Indiana to be recognized by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership. The company employs a staff of 60.
