Rohm and Haas Emphasizes Forward-looking Sustainability Solutions at European Coatings Show 2009

Tuesday 24. February 2009 - This year’s European Coatings Show in Nürnberg, Germany, the world’s number 1 coatings trade fair, will be the arena for specialty materials company Rohm and Haas (NYSE:ROH) to showcase a number of their innovations focused on eco-sustainability for the industrial, decorative, and building and construction coatings segments, both at their booth and during the Congress.

Recent EU coatings legislation, consumer awareness and raw material volatility all present the coatings industry with a challenge – to balance performance requirements with eco-sustainability, a challenge that Rohm and Haas is happy to rise to says Dr. Ilham Kadri, marketing director for Rohm and Haas Paints and Coatings Material business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “Legislation and sustainability remain driving forces; consumers are also more demanding than ever before. Our industry must balance these drivers. Those that use this as a springboard for innovation will come out stronger in the end.”

Technical experts and key Rohm and Haas management from around the world will be present at the booth and available to discuss the company’s innovations for the following coatings market segments and product lines:

Architectural/Decorative: New low VOC hybrid binder for decorative gloss applications, as well as a new low odour technology platform to formulate primers and top-coats for interior wall paints or wood.
Building/Construction: New range of high-performance, environmentally-advanced EIFS (exterior insulation finishing systems) products for a wide range of finishes on exterior residential and commercial building surfaces.
Industrial Coatings: New water-based primer and binder range for industrial metal and wood, combining high-performance with an excellent eco-profile, and representing an attractive alternative to solvent-based systems.
Hiding technology: New development for use in alkyd emulsion high gloss paint.
Rheology modifiers: New low VOC mid-shear viscosity builder with less sensitivity to viscosity drop upon colorant addition.
Biocides: Innovative formaldehyde-free solutions which contributes to protecting water-based coatings against microbial contaminations under even the harshest conditions.
