WRH Marketing UK Provides Polestar with Some Smooth Conveying

Ferag’s SNT trimmer

Thursday 18. December 2008 - In a project described as ‘seamless’ WRH Marketing UK has moved a complete line of Ferag stitching, gathering, trimming, log feeding and conveying equipment from the closed Corby factory of Quebecor to Polestar Varnicoat’s Worcestershire gravure plant. The ten-year old line, which joins two similar Ferag lines at the Pershore site, was dismantled, moved and commissioned in around ten weeks.

“We were extremely pleased,” says Phil Boynes, managing director at Polestar Varnicoat. “In partnership with Polestar Varnicoat, WRH Marketing UK handled the project very professionally, with the entire Ferag line in production exactly on time, within budget and without any problems along the way.

“The Ferag line has been producing work around the clock with total reliability since it was commissioned in October and the extra 50 per cent capacity has already enabled us to bring in-house work that was being finished outside the group. This additional firepower will be crucial in helping us to win new business in the future. Having three Ferag lines capable of gathering, stitching, trimming and inserting gives us great flexibility in the mailroom.”

Polestar Varnicoat specialises in time sensitive magazines, newspaper supplements, and catalogues for leading publishers throughout the UK. The four high speed gravure presses include the UK’s first 3.52 metre wide press. The factory can produce work ranging from A5 to tabloid, in section sizes from 32-pages to 224-pages.

The third Ferag line at Varnicoat is identical to the existing two lines and consists of an SHT stitcher/gatherer, an SNT 420 trimmer, MultiLog log feeders, ETR inserting equipment plus conveying facilities. A similar Ferag configuration will be moved from the Corby site to Polestar Petty in Leeds at the end of 2008.

“The transfer of the Ferag equipment across the country is a good example of the wide level of services WRH Marketing UK is able to provide its customers,” says Marcus Evans, managing director. “Our comprehensive experience of Ferag equipment and our ability to manage major projects that are time sensitive places us in a unique position in this field.”
