xpedx Adds Radio Frequency-Enabled Information Technology at Top U.S. Distribution Centers

Monday 06. October 2008 - xpedx(R) today said it has begun upgrading its U.S. distribution network with a radio frequency (RF)-enabled warehouse management system that will bring important new advantages and expanded services to xpedx customers worldwide.

xpedx has contracted with RedPrairie(R), a global provider of supply chain management software, to provide the new information technology and related services that will be used across the xpedx distribution network.

Upon implementation, xpedx customers will see benefits including increased supply chain productivity, activity-based costing and other measurement tools, order accuracy and quicker order turnaround, shorter travel time and real-time inventory tracking.

xpedx said the new warehouse management system will also enable it to expand delivery of high-demand kitting, fulfillment and inventory consignment services.

“Our goal is repeatable logistics excellence — delivering the perfect order at the right time, every single time,” said Art Douville, executive vice president of operations for xpedx. “This new warehouse management system will give xpedx and its customers unprecedented visibility and control over products throughout the supply chain.”

xpedx said the RedPrairie technology will deliver new efficiencies and productivity advantages companywide and across the more than 100,000 SKUs it actively manages every day in its North American distribution network.
