Tuesday 08. July 2008 - The leading UK current affairs publication, The Economist, has renewed its print contract with St Ives Web.

The Economist provides a leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs. Each weekly edition is printed in six different countries, for simultaneous distribution the following day. St Ives Web, the magazine printing division of St Ives plc, was originally contracted to print the newspaper 19 years ago. After a recent review, The Economist maintains that St Ives provides a superior service and the most cost-effective print.

Sharon Simpson, International Production Director, The Economist explains, ‘The Economist has the kind of tight deadlines associated with newspapers, but is printed in a magazine format. It is therefore crucial that our printer be able to meet the production challenges this presents, sometimes shutting down the presses and restarting the printrun if we receive a late breaking story. After being in production for over a century and a half, The Economist has established an esteemed reputation for providing the most up-to-date news in each issue. St Ives’ flexibility and reliable service has contributed to ensuring we uphold this reputation and meet the expectations of our readers.’

The Economist is printed at St Ives Peterborough on MAN Roland Lithoman presses and bound with Ferag binding equipment. In keeping with St Ives’ value-added approach, St Ives Web also provides The Economist with specialist folds and cover finishes when required.

Tony Ayles, Sales Director, St Ives Web comments, ‘We are extremely pleased that The Economist has renewed its print contract with St Ives. This newspaper has enjoyed immense success over the last few years, increasing its circulation and pagination and leading to even shorter deadlines to meet demand. St Ives has always endeavoured to invest in the latest technology in order to continue to meet its clients’ requirements, and this August, we have scheduled a considerable investment in equipment for our Peterborough site. Combined with our existing binding facilities, we aim to further improve the already high-quality print The Economist, and other publications, receive at St Ives.’
