A new drive system in the Ventura and the Diamant

In the Diamant MC bookline, the stroke of the rub-down device is adjusted to the width of the book.

Friday 06. June 2008 - In a modern design, in the new Laserblue color, and boasting technical improvements: Muller Martini presents the Ventura book sewing machine and the Diamant book line with Motion Control, the new and innovative servo drive concept.

With the new servo concept, the signature stop on the sewing saddle on the Ventura MC is freely selectable. This allows the signatures to be aligned as far to the right as possible so that they travel only a minimum distance on the saddle. At the same cycle time, the signatures move at a much slower speed and therefore very smoothly onto the saddle. The belt infeed which conveys the signature to the stop accelerates and brakes gently. Conversely, this means that much higher production output can be achieved at the same signature speed.

Excellent stitching pattern with perfect signature positioning
The smooth and stable movement of the signature and its perfect positioning on the sewing saddle ensure an excellent stitching pattern and precision stitched book blocks – even at maximum productivity. Even the most sophisticated products (e.g. inserted oblong sizes) are produced reliably and at high cycle times. The MC technology thus ensures both quality and production safety and also higher cycle times. Net production rates are significantly better compared to other book sewing machines available on the market.
Asir 3 also ensures high production reliability. As the signatures are transported, it uses an internal camera to verify that they are in the correct order and that they open at the right place. There are two options for this process: image comparison and barcode recognition.

Automatic size and process dependent settings
For the first time in any hardcover production machine in the world, servo motors have been used in the casing in section in the Diamant MC book line. With this new drive technology, an optimized time and route-dependent profile is created for each book. The settings are made automatically and depend on the size and the process. This means that the operation can be tailored exactly for every size. For example, in the Diamant MC, the times at which the folding and gluing unit and the rubdown device are applied are calculated automatically. The basis of this calculation are the size values, the rounding degree, the backing form and the interchangeable parts used. A wide range of different values interact. These come from the shelved elevator, from the folding and gluing unit, from the rubdown device, from the case trolley, from the block trolley and the two transport chains.

The high-precision process ensures that the books are reliably of the highest quality – starting with the first book of the run. The automatically generated profiles are variable; the operator can make modifications at any time if required.
