ROTOMAN: As diverse as customer demands and as dynamic as the market.

Tuesday 03. June 2008 - Sound commercial printing concepts from manroland

With its added value philosophy “Applied Innovations” for web offset, manroland is totally customer-oriented. Sound and practical concepts for enhanced product value and increased production efficiency are the topics that dictate developments in commercial printing today.

The global web offset market leader strictly observed these criteria and current pri-orities when selecting the items to be exhibited in the Webfed Park: the DynaChange system for dynamic job change-over on the ROTOMAN, the fully-automatic APL plate changing system on the LITHOMAN, the groundbreaking 96-page concept, and the revolutionary PFI-5 folder for high-volume commercial printing. Other topics include the 80-page LITHOMAN and the EUROMAN success story.

DynaChange for dynamic job change-over
The new DynaChange system for rapid job change-over shown on the ROTOMAN makes this press even more flexible: two double printing couples equipped with DynaChange demonstrate changing over to the widest variety of applications while the press is running through plate change “on the fly”. While the press is still print-ing the current job, the next one is prepared at the other free printing unit which starts production at the planned change-over time. Since the units are equipped with the fully-automatic APL plate changing system, makeready time is reduced considerably. Another highlight: with CutCon plus, a classical mechatronic system, manroland drastically reduces waste after reel change and blanket wash-up.

APL: four times as fast
Where costs per copy are decisive, shorter makeready times are key. The auto-matic APL system makes plate change on commercial printing presses four times as fast – without operator involvement. This new development shown on a LITHOMAN double printing unit demonstrates the advantages of a fully-automatic system. Compared with the PPL system, APL reduces the time needed for changing eight plates from ten to only around 2.5 minutes.

2.25 meters web width in high demand
The first press with this web width started up at J.Fink Druckerei in Germany’s Ost-fildern in November 2007 and up till drupa 2008 five more presses have been sold. Right from the outset this largest LITHOMAN built so far has been a bestseller with its web width of 2.25 meters and 80 long-grain pages around the cylinder. In a time when output is a major factor for the economic success of printing companies, the trend to the XXL format continues to grow.

96-page concept on the agenda
While the rollout of the largest LITHOMAN built so far is in full swing the manroland engineers are already thinking about the next quantum leap in the XXL segment. This revolves around a 96-page web press. The aim here is to increase productiv-ity in high-volume commercial printing even further. The target output is 3.84 mil-lion pages per hour with printing cylinders up to 2,860 millimeters wide.

EUROMAN: customized for the market
With the EUROMAN manroland has succeeded in developing a product that makes no compromises with the philosophy of Customized Printing Technology. The sales concluded in specific key markets since its launch in 2007 speak for themselves. The EUROMAN design was dictated by the latest trends in regionality, locality and target group segmentation. ClosedLoop control systems ensure con-sistently high printing quality, and the job structure determines which of the three dampening system alternatives to choose. Automation options such as ink preset-ting and the automated PPL (PowerPlateLoading) system provide a high level of efficiency for industrial-scale applications.

Cost-saving world champion in high-volume folding
manroland is to show the world’s only folder with multiple-motor technology in the form of the further developed PFI-5 folder for the high-volume segment. Major fea-ture: very low maintenance costs. Higher productivity through increased output, ex-treme reliability and low life cycle costs of the PFI-5 all contribute to greater eco-nomic efficiency of the entire pressline. This is achieved among other things by new features such as a magnetic brake and a splitting device.

The PRINTVALUE Park
Interesting aspects of commercial printing are also to be seen in the PRINTVALUE Park. Generous space has been allocated to the brands of the PRINTVALUE fam-ily. The Innovation Park will show future-oriented technologies, and the Energy and Environmental Center presents solutions for resource conservation and reduction of waste levels, energy costs, and emissions.
