Trade-fair premiere for Gerresheimer in South America: the Group presents pharmaceutical packaging made of glass and plastic

Thursday 29. May 2008 - Subsidiaries in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the USA are jointly represented.

A multi-facetted range of primary packaging for pharma¬ceutics is displayed by the Gerresheimer Group at FCE Pharma in Brazil from May 27 – 29, 2008. The pharma-plastic specialist Gerresheimer Plásticos – formerly Allplas Embala¬gens – which is itself based in the trade-fair venue of São Paulo is for the first time staging its presentation under the umbrella of the globally active Group to which it has belonged since the start of the year. Together with it, the Mexican and US sister companies are presenting glass packaging for pharmaceutics and life sciences. For Gerresheimer as a whole the specialist event in the Trans¬america Expo Center also marks the first major trade-fair appearance in South America (Booth 372).

With pharmaceutical containers and application systems made of plastic the Group has during the past year additionally advanced as a strong player in the South American market. Its latest Brazilian subsidiary operates two production plants in São Paulo and is the market leader in its country in the field of packaging for solid and liquid medicines. Further south, namely in Argentina, Gerresheimer has another production centre for plastic pharma packaging, which was taken over at the end of 2007. This also enjoys leading market positions in the region. That production plants such as these have strategic importance for the Group in addition to their specific strengths is obvious. “We see ourselves as a global market partner in the best sense”, says Burkhard Lingenberg, Gerresheimer’s Market¬ing and Communication Director: “Taken together, regional expansion and the synergistically complemented product portfolio allow us to offer a substantially wider and more varied overall product range today in all parts of the world.”

It is moreover a highly innovative range. Yet another high-calibre honour has just now created more limelight for Gerresheimer Plastic Packaging. For its desiccant closures under the Duma trademark the Division has received the ‘Silver President’s Award’ of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) – news which reached Gerresheimer just on the evening before the opening of the trade fair. As the first manufacturer in the world, the Group started to produce these closures for the tablet market completely under one roof and thereby created new safety standards. The President’s Award of the WPO is the third prestige honour which Gerresheimer has won for this pioneering innovation, after already receiving the German Packaging Prize and the WorldStar award.

The new closure generation is one of the highlights of a consistently highly advanced product range, of which specialist visitors to São Paulo can see an interesting cross-section. In addition to tablet containers, eye droppers, nasal spray systems and other specialist pharma products made of plastic, glass pharma packaging is a key area of focus: vials, ampoules, cartridges, bottles and jars in a multitude of categories complete the comprehensive and state-of-the-art range. The service spectrum of the Gerresheimer Group as a whole extends even further – from medical plastic systems to sterile all-glass syringe systems, for example, as well as a wide variety of laboratory equipment: to the highest quality standards and without geographical limits.
