Pharmaceuticals: Creating a strong brand through compliance and design

Tuesday 06. May 2008 - Faller launches a finishing brand / one-stop shop for combination products

The COPACO company August Faller KG is show-casing packaging solutions with “pharmaceutical excellence” at Interpack. The spotlight is on developments focusing on the latest market requirements for ethical and OTC products. In response to the growing importance of branding on the pharmaceutical market, Faller is the first pharmaceutical specialist to launch its own finishing brand for pharmaceutical packaging. Additionally, Fal-ler will also be demonstrating its strength in service provision, with solutions for efficient process management in the production of therapy-supporting combination products.

Faller Senses
Faller is the first pharmaceutical packaging manufacturer to organize its finishing port-folio in a complete catalog complying with pharmaceutical standards. The COPACO company will be unveiling its catalog at Interpack under the brand name “Faller Senses”. Its range of finishing products includes multi-sensory finishing options for fol-ding cartons, adhesive labels, packaging supplements and combination products. Gloss, matt and UV coatings, scented coatings and embossed foil printing make for a diverse range of material and finishing combinations. In recent years, Faller has been continually expanding its finishing capacities by investing heavily in printing technolo-gy.

“Faller Senses” helps the pharmaceutical industry harness the potential of stylish pa-ckaging to generate trust and a strong branding – both on the fast-growing OTC mar-ket and the ethical market.

Compliance & combination products
Convenience and compliance are two of the most important requirements that phar-maceutical packaging solutions need to satisfy. At Interpack, Faller will be presenting patient-friendly packaging designs, such as the ProCarton award winner PocketPack, and combination products. Combination products include folding cartons with integra-ted outserts, labelled folding cartons, and wallets with dry-peel calendar labels, which patients can stick on their medication as reminders.

The Faller concept for combination products covers numerous options for combining the full range of pharmaceutical packaging materials made from card and paper. The-se options include, for instance, fixing packaging supplements in place for easy refe-rence, applying reminder labels, or use of sequentially numbered labels. Faller’s pharmaceutical service centers use in-process checks to monitor the production and assembly of combination products and code readers to ensure that all the components are combined correctly. The process of dispensing adhesive labels is also monitored fully via a camera system. Combination products increase the efficiency of packaging lines in the pharmaceutical industry by simplifying processes.

Stylish multi-functional wallet as a combination product
With its latest development, Faller shows how “Faller Senses” and combination pro-ducts can be used together in practical applications. The packaging solution compri-ses a wallet, a dry-peel label with calendar stickers and a folded packaging supple-ment fixed in place in the wallet. The packaging’s compliance strength lies in the wal-let’s practicality, particularly in the case of the packaging supplement. It can be unfol-ded and folded back together again without having to be removed from the wallet. In this way, the directions always remain with the medication. “Faller Senses” puts the fi-nishing touch to the product – all three packaging materials are gold-embossed or printed in gold ink and the wallet is finished with UV, gloss and matt coatings and high embossing. The reliable packaging solution with its patient-friendly and stylish design thus reinforces the strength of the brand.
