Monday 28. April 2008 - Cumbria's award-winning vehicle graphics, sign and print specialist, AstSigns, has invested in Roland DG wide format technology due to its proven ability to deliver high quality products and premium levels of service. The 30-employee company is an industry leader in the vehicle graphics arena and holds the contracts for a number of national hauliers, including the UK's most famous logistics company, Eddie Stobart.

Last month, AstSigns, which has ISO 9001 quality accreditation, installed a 74-inch wide Roland DG AdvancedJet AJ-740 printer that is capable of producing 80m” per hour. However, the Penrith-based company has since bolstered its Roland DG firepower with the installation of two additional 64-inch wide SolJet Pro III XJ-640s, which can print at a resolution of up to 1,440dpi. The machines have replaced others from a rival wide format manufacturer. AstSigns owner and managing director, Mark Aston, said that the reason behind the investment in Roland DG equipment was not simply down to the high quality of the wide format technology, but also the guaranteed level of service and support that Roland DG is able to offer.

Mark Aston said: “The printers use Eco-Sol Max inks and produce fantastic graphics on a variety of substrates, but the real clincher for us was the fact that Roland DG would guarantee next day service levels. As a businessman I need to know that the technology I invest in is backed with real support. So far, we have installed three Roland DG wide format printers, which we use for all the Eddie Stobart work, and I expect that in the near future there will be more.”

Roland DG (UK) managing director, Jerry Davies, said: “Today’s customers expect far more than high quality technology, which is something of a given. They need to know that the manufacturer they choose to partner with has the right levels of service to support their business. Roland DG has invested heavily to ensure that it has the requisite infrastructure in place to guarantee this support.
This in-the-field support is coupled with initiatives like Value Up, which allows customers to download software upgrades without charge, and means that Roland DG (UK) is the partner of choice for the business-savvy sign-maker and printer.”

AstSigns has been trading for six years, since it was established by Mark Aston, who has 15 years’ experience in the sign-making industry. The company wraps and produces signage for around 2,000 vehicles a year. Alongside this core business,
AstSigns supplies all types of external signage, internal banners and pop-ups, as well as professional print services. Last year Mark Aston was named as businessman of the year at the Cumbria Business Awards.
