PSO Meets UV

r. Felix Berg, Managing Director of SID (l.), presents the PSO Certification document to Executive Board member Dr. Markus Rall.

Friday 25. April 2008 - Certification with UV inks in the Graphic Center

MAN Roland is continually working to improve the quality of UV printing. Besides the certification already received for conventional inks, printing with UV inks has now also been certified in accordance with ISO 12647-2 in the Offenbach Graphic Center.
The UV market is buoyant and multi-purpose presses that permit alternating operation between UV and conventional printing applications are very popular. UV capability enables a printing company to expand its product portfolio and thus gain new jobs and customers.
For the certification a ROLAND 500 was used which is equipped for alternating operation. All process-compliant system components (blankets, damping solutions, washing agents) were provided by the printcom business unit. As guidelines for certification, the SID (Sächsisches Institut für die Druckindustrie) prescribed the target values and tolerances for conventional inks in accordance with ISO 12647-2 as a basis. For MAN Roland, this certification is an important step along the way to improving and maintaining the quality of the UV process.

More new fundamentals for and beyond the process as such are being worked on by MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG together with other German press manufacturers in the initiative for standardisation of UV and hybrid applications that MAN Roland joined at the beginning of 2008. The objective of the initiative is to cooperate in the field of certification of equipment and materials for UV printing and developing new test standards for the process.
